Chapter 12: Chapter 12: A New Warlord?

After I'd received the letter inviting me to join the Seven Warlords I gathered my crew to ask their opinions about whether or not I should so through with it or not. If I'm being honest, I didn't really care either way, so I pretty much left the decision up to them.

"It's fine with me, it'd get the Navy off our backs. With those new bounties they gave us, they've been really coming after us lately." Yuma said, although the Thriller Bark incident wasn't made public knowledge, the Navy still knew about it and raised the crew's bounties accordingly. My bounty had beeen increased to 170 million, Jack's had bumped to 150 million, and Yuma's was now 40 million.

"I'm against it. I left the Navy because I determined that they didn't stand for true justice. You should remember the only reason I joined this crew was so I could fight against injustice whether it was from the Navy or other pirates. If you become a Warlord, you won't be able to fight against the Navy. If you join the Warlords, then I'm out of the crew." Jack said definitively.

"Alright those are both good points, so I guess that makes it one vote a piece. So the tie breaking vote will be from Claudia!" I said pointing at our timid chef who seemed surprised to even be in the conversation.

"M-Me?

"Yes, we're tied one to one we need someone to break the tie." I said. "Even though you're not a fighter like the rest of us, you're just as much a part of the crew."

"Um, well I suppose I think that you should just do whatever you want."

"What I want is for you to make a choice. I honestly don't have a strong opinion either way. I was just going to do whatever you guys decided."

Claudia looked unsure of what to say next but eventually made a decision. "Well I suppose it would be safer for us if we joined the Seven Warlords. It'd prefer to not be constantly chased by the Marines."

"Alright that settles it, the Beast Sword Pirates are now a part of the Seven Warlords!" I said. I said I didn't care either way but secretly I thought having a cool title like Warlord of the Sea was pretty cool.

"Hmph, well then I guess this is where we part ways. If I thought working with the Navy was the right way to purse justice I'd never have left in the first place." Jack said as he started to walk away. "No hard feelings, I respect your decision. I just can't go along with it."

"Just hold on for a second Jack. I think you're looking at this the wrong way again." I said causing Jack to stop and turn back around.

"I don't see what I'm missing. I wanted the freedom to fight injustice anywhere I found it. If we ally with the Navy then I won't be able to fight against corrupt members of the Navy." Jack replied.

"And that's exactly where you're wrong. We're just joining to get the Navy off our backs. We're still free to do whatever we want. If you feel that there are Marines that need to be brought to justice, I won't stop you."

"But if we fight against the Navy then they'll revoke your status as a Warlord." Jack said.

"Yeah and if it comes to that so be it. All I'm saying is that, we're going to use this situation to our advantage for as long as we can, and once it's not to our advantage we'll drop it. Sound fair?" I said extending my hand to Jack.

"Hmm, I suppose so." Jack said after mulling it over and then shaking my hand. "But if you ever become a lap dog for the World Government I'll take you down myself."

"Yeah, yeah I know."

With that I officially became a member of the Seven Warlords, it was news that was spread throughout the world. Though I had been a relatively unknown pirate for the roughly six months that I've been sailing the Grand Line I'd now started to get my first taste of notoriety.

Now that our bounties had been frozen, we no longer had to deal with the daily threats of the Navy and bounty hunters. This freed up some time to get back to our goal of exploring the Grand Line and for that we needed more crew members still.

"We could still use a navigator Gai. Almost half of our travel time is us getting lost. This is really a position we should have filled before we even set out for the Grand Line." Yuma told me for what felt like the millionth time.

"Not only that but the weather and the battles we've fought have started to take a toll on our ship. We could really use a shipwright too." Jack added.

"It would be nice to have a doctor on board in case anyone got seriously hurt." Claudia thought but was too shy to say out loud.

"Yeah and a musician would really liven things up around here." I said while the others complained that I had my priorities in the wrong order. "Anyway, I don't really have any idea where we can go to find any of those things, but I do know that we can find the best shipwrights in the world at Water 7. I guess we should make that our next destination." I continued.

"Yeah that's a good point. They are world renowned for their shipbuilding skills. The problem is that it's so far from where we currently are. Without a navigator it could be really tough to get there." Jack said.

"Well we'll just have to do the best we can." As I was speaking we got a call on the transponder snail from the Navy. They would occasionally call us with assignments, which we would ignore or complete based on what the assignment was. This time a brutal gang of pirates were creating a path of destruction wherever they went. They wanted the pirates stopped, and we happened to be nearby at the time so we were selected to take care of the situation.

"Well, what do you think Jack? These seem like pretty bad guys. I think we should go ahead and crush them." I said.

"I agree. We should bring them to justice." He replied.

"So who are these guys?" Yuma asked.

"Let me see. I think they were called the Black Flag Pirates. I don't remember their captain's name exactly, but I remember them saying he was worth a quarter billion."

"That's a lot of money. It's even higher than yours was. Then again so was Moria's, but that didn't help him." Yuma said.

"Yeah but we shouldn't underestimate them. Bounties aren't always an accurate representation of how strong someone is." I said as we set sail to take out the Black Flag Pirates.

Meanwhile on the Black Flag Pirates' ship.

"Captain it would appear that we have a new vessel on its way to intercept us." A beautiful red haired woman said to a large burley man with a long black beard wearing all black.

"Kehaha! With your ability no one can ever get the drop on us! How about we prepare a nice little ambush for our new guests." The captain said with a scheming smile.
