Chapter 5: Chapter 5 Leveling Up
Abby saw a line of text appear on the control panel: Congratulations on your promotion to Level 2 healer.
"Promoted to level 2 so quickly?" Abby was a bit surprised, so she tapped into her personal profile to check, and her rank was indeed already showing a level 2.
"Although I have mastered the basic theoretical knowledge of a Healer, I haven't really used my superpower yet. " At that moment, Abby overheard a withered pot of greenery sitting on the windowsill.
"Maybe I should try." She said.
So Abby slipped out of her hospital bed and walked to the window sill. As the night breeze gently ruffled the yellowing leaves of the green plant, Abby gathered her thoughts, ran her hand over the leaves, and then she drew a deep breath.
A warm current flowed slowly from Abby's body to the palms of her hands, which then glowed with a pale green glow of energy, faint as a firefly in a dark night.
A pale green light enveloped the verdure, and presently the yellow leaves of the verdure slowly turned green. In less than a few minutes, the pot of greenery was as full of life as if it had been newly planted.
"Oh my God, I did it." Abby said excitedly as she marveled at the green plant in front of her, "I can use my healing skill now."
The green glow of energy was slowly spreading, the leaves of the green plants were beginning to grow larger after absorbing the glow, and the vine of the green plants was rapidly spreading in every direction. Soon the green vines were climbing out of the pots, and they stretched along the ledge toward the ceiling. The ceiling, which had been white, was instantly covered with green roses.
"No, no, no." Abby exclaimed, "Stop, stop."
The green plant, however, did not understand Abby at all, and it was still growing wildly, as if it would take over the room.
At that moment, Abby heard the system's voice, "Attention,Your energy levels are dropping."
"Jesus, What the hell happened? " Abby said in a panic.
"Attention, A level below 30 affects your mental strength, please stop using your healing skills."
Abby immediately calmed down after hearing what the system said. She tried to recall what she had learned in the learning space, and then she closed her eyes and gathered her thoughts again.
Abby slowly withdrew that energy back into her body with her mind, and only then did she open her eyes after it had completely disappeared from her palm.
Abby was relieved when she saw that the greenery had finally stopped growing.
"I still need to practice more before I can do that. After all, according to my current ability, I can't fully control this power yet." Abby muttered to herself.
Suddenly Abby felt dizzy and weak. At this time, the system panel automatically opened, and a line of red text appeared on the panel: [Stamina Value: 40/100]
"Using healing skills at will actually consumes a lot of my energy." Abby frowned, "I need some energy now."
So Abby tapped the item bar, and she got a bottle of Nutrient Liquid for 50 points. Presently a white, clear glass bottle of Nutrient Liquid fell from the bar of the object, and Abby immediately caught it with her hand.
Abby drank the bottle of Nutrient Liquid in one gulp, then lay down on her bed and fell asleep.
......
The next morning, Abby wakes up feeling energized, and when she taps the system panel to check her personal information, she finds that her stamina value has actually returned to 100.
"Looks like this isn't an ordinary nutrient solution." Abby muttered to herself. Apparently the nutrient solution she drank last night was more effective than the hospital-made solution.
Abby was no longer repulsed by the prospect of a quest, but rather looked forward to it. If she could redeem some of the nutritional solutions for her mother, it might help her mother's condition.
As the nurse brought in Abby's breakfast, she was momentarily struck by the verdure that covered the ceiling. The nurse thought the greenery had mutated, so she rushed to get a doctor. Upon examination by the doctor, it was found that the greenery had not mutated, but neither of them could understand why the greenery should have withered and regrown.
Abby, of course, would not tell them the real reason.
So Abby checked out and left the hospital. She walked to the bus stop in the centre of the town, where a free bus would arrive at her home.
Abby was standing on the platform, like all the other passengers waiting for the bus. Suddenly there came a shrill cry from the sky above the city. The sound is piercing, with a loud sonic boom that irritates one's eardrums. Passers-by immediately covered their ears at the sound, and their faces wore a pained expression.
As the resistance of the Awakened is stronger than that of the common people, Abby did not feel as much pain as the others at the sound.
Abby looked up, and she saw that the sky was covered with a great shadow. A monstrous-looking black mutant eagle hovered over the city. The mutant eagle's plumage glowed with an icy metallic sheen.
Its body, about 100 feet long and shaped like a large fighter jet ready to fire, exudes a chilling sense of oppression.
The mutant eagle's eyes glowed with a ghostly blue light as it looked down on the bustling human city below. The keen gaze revealed a hint of murderous intent, as if the city were its prey to conquer.
At the same time, sound waves from the mutant eagle's beak are impinging on the glass on the periphery of the city's buildings, shattering one piece of glass after another as it falls.
The falling glass hit passers-by and cars in the street. For a moment every one was aghast at the sudden apparition. Everyone was running for their lives and the streets were in chaos.
Suddenly, the mutant eagle speeds up its flight. Like a flash of black lightning, it swooped down upon the city with appalling rapidity.
A disaster was in the offing.
