As The Only Mutant in Marvel

Chapter 34: Chapter 34: Gwen: “He Must Not Know I’m Spider-Woman!”

"Who are you?"

Lance glanced at the man in front of him, completely unsure who he was.

"My humble name is Yamada Kamimoto."

The man introduced himself politely.

So he was from Japan.

No wonder he seemed so formal.

But Lance had his reservations—people like this often acted polite on the surface while plotting behind your back.

"A classic smiling tiger," Lance thought.

"So, Mr. Yamada, nice to meet you."

Lance gave a curt nod and immediately dismissed him.

He wasn't interested in idle chatter.

The meeting began.

As Lance listened to the discussions, he quickly realized how dull it was.

Harry, seated at the head of the table, looked equally bored.

These older board members had been causing him trouble recently.

But Harry, rather than confronting them head-on, saw this as a chance to gain experience and sharpen his skills in corporate maneuvering.

Lance, however, didn't care about any of that.

He spent most of the meeting scrolling through his phone, barely paying attention.

The meeting dragged on for over an hour.

When it finally ended, Harry invited Lance to a business dinner.

Lance declined immediately.

"Please, those dinners are the most boring thing ever."

He waved off the suggestion with disgust.

"You go suffer through it. Don't drag me along!"

Harry laughed helplessly.

"Fine, but don't forget about the yacht party on the 25th—three days and two nights at sea. You'll like that."

"Let's see if I'm free."

Lance didn't commit.

It was still early in the month—he'd decide later.

But truth be told, he was already interested.

On the way down…

Lance took the elevator, planning to find Gwen.

The elevator stopped on the 15th floor.

When the doors opened, Gwen stood there holding several documents.

"Hello!"

She greeted him casually, pretending not to recognize him.

"Hi. Which floor?"

Lance asked, playing along.

"Sixth, thank you."

Lance pressed the button, and they descended in silence.

When they reached her floor, he gave a polite reminder.

"Sixth floor."

Gwen smiled, stepped out, and the doors closed.

Lance glanced down and noticed something on the ground.

It was Gwen's badge.

"Seriously? How cliché."

Meanwhile, Gwen had just finished delivering her documents when she realized her badge was missing.

Her stomach dropped.

It wasn't a huge deal, but as an intern, she didn't want to make a bad impression.

"Where did it go?"

She started retracing her steps, growing more anxious.

Then—

"Are you looking for this?"

A voice called out, and Gwen turned to see Lance holding her badge.

"Thank God!"

She quickly took it, her face lighting up.

"Thank you so much! I don't know what I would've done if I lost this."

"You dropped it in the elevator," Lance said with a grin.

Gwen breathed a sigh of relief.

"If it weren't for you, I'd probably be panicking right now. Thanks again!"

"No problem. Just lending a hand."

Gwen glanced at his badge and froze.

Vice President.

"You're the new vice president everyone's been talking about?!"

Lance smirked.

"So they've been gossiping about me already?"

"I-I didn't mean it like that!"

Gwen quickly tried to backtrack.

"People are just curious about you—how someone so young got the position."

"Relax, I get it."

Lance waved it off.

Then he asked, "Your name's Gwen, right?"

She nodded.

"Midtown High? I graduated from there too."

"You went to Midtown?" Gwen's eyes widened.

"Didn't expect that, did you?"

Lance chuckled.

To Gwen, this revelation made him more relatable—and less intimidating as a vice president.

"I hope he doesn't figure out I'm Spider-Woman," she thought nervously.

For now, her secret was safe.

But with Lance around, Gwen knew it was only a matter of time before things got complicated.
