Chapter 223: C194(1)
The follow-up development of the Wonder Woman movie was entirely within Coulson's expectations.
This is not a film with particularly profound connotations; it's a superhero movie dominated by entertainment and action. However, the content and the director behind the film should not be overlooked.
The plot unfolds as Diana grows up, introducing the audience to a magical weapon: a sword. In the original comics, this sword was called the Vulcan Sword, capable of cutting at the subatomic level.
However, in the movie, the sword played no significant role. But that's a discussion for another time.
As the early stages of the story conclude, with the background fully introduced, the main narrative begins.
A plane crashes into Paradise Island, followed by German soldiers. The island's inhabitants manage to fend off the attackers with great difficulty. From the pilot, Steve Trevor, Diana learns about the world outside.
A massive war has engulfed the globe, lasting four years, involving 27 countries, and resulting in 25 million deaths.
Hearing the name "Steve," Coulson's expression becomes noticeably strange.
For anyone familiar with superheroes, this name is clearly an allusion to Captain America. The movie's setting easily evokes comparisons to World War II, though the movie itself is set during a different conflict.
As a devoted fan of Captain America, Coulson knows Steve Rogers' story inside and out—and it definitely doesn't involve a mystical Paradise Island. This was clearly a creative addition by Anton.
"…No reference value!" Coulson mutters, frowning slightly.
He begins to suspect that this movie might be purely a result of Anton's personal interests, devoid of any meaningful connection to reality.
As the movie progresses, Coulson's predictions hold true. The inhabitants of Paradise Island believe that Ares, the god of war, is responsible for the conflict.
Determined to stop him, Diana takes the magical sword and leaves the island with Steve Trevor to face Ares and end the war.
Along the way, they gather reliable allies, uncovering that the true identity of Ares is Sir Patrick, who had previously been helping them.
After defeating General Ludendorff, Diana discovers that killing him hasn't stopped the war.
When Ares reveals himself, he destroys the magical sword with ease and points out that the sword is not the weapon of death—Diana herself is.
As the daughter of Zeus and Queen Hippolyta, Diana possesses the blood of the old gods and is the only one capable of killing Ares.
The climactic battle ensues. In the end, Steve sacrifices himself in a plane explosion, and Diana defeats Ares, ending the war.
The plot, while engaging, is fairly straightforward. Watching Steve die in a plane, Coulson can't help but see parallels to Captain America.
Knowing the real Steve Rogers personally, the dissonance between his reality and the movie's story deepens Coulson's conviction that the film holds no real-world significance.
Of course, this is just his opinion. The audience around him seems to be thoroughly enjoying the movie.
The Wonder Woman film offers a different experience compared to previous superhero movies like Batman or Cyborg.
Batman emphasizes deeper themes, while Cyborg focuses on futuristic technology. In contrast, Wonder Woman shines with its rich backstory and impressive special effects, creating an equally captivating experience.
After the film ended, the general audience applauded warmly, expressing their appreciation. However, Tony, seated in the audience, remained unmoved.
He acknowledged that the movie was above the standard of a "passable" work and could foresee its commercial success.
Yet, it lacked the intellectual depth of Batman, the technological inspiration of Cyborg, or even the existential intrigue of Superman.
The concept of gods, Zeus, and divine blood felt far removed from reality for Tony.
Tony Stark never believed in myths. Unless a god—say, Zeus himself or his demigod offspring—appeared before him, he considered such tales irrelevant.
To him, the film's only appeal was the heroine, Diana, with her long legs and captivating presence.
At the end of the movie, Tony and Coulson left early, not waiting for the creative team's final remarks. Anton noticed this but didn't care.
From the audience's reactions, Anton knew the film had achieved the effect he wanted. Thanks to the Flash TV series, Wonder Woman already had 10 million fans. Anton estimated that within a week, an additional 20 million would join them.
"Once the Wonder Woman template is activated, it'll bring incredible power," Anton mused, stroking his chin thoughtfully.
Analyzing his current situation, Anton realized he had already acquired three DC heroes: Batman, Cyborg, and Green Arrow.
Among them, excluding Batman's high-tech battle armor, the most powerful in their natural state was undoubtedly Wonder Woman.
With her divine heritage and mastery of godly power, Diana Prince was a force to be reckoned with.
At this point, the Justice League under Anton's leadership consisted of Batman, Cyborg, Green Arrow, Wonder Woman, Venom, Spider-Man, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Daredevil, and Goblin.
Additionally, hidden in the sewer lab were Hulk, Dr. Lizard, and Rat Splinter.
The roster was already formidable, and the team also had a war fortress in space, connected to Cybertron, the Transformers' home planet.
With this setup, Transformers could be summoned instantly via the technodrome's teleportation device, providing emergency reinforcements.
Looking at the lineup and resources, Anton felt nearly invincible. Of course, he knew this was an illusion.
The Earth held countless secrets, and the most notable among them was the Ancient One, the Sorcerer Supreme, silently observing and controlling the flow of time.
While she had yet to intervene, Anton was certain the Ancient One was aware of him and his growing influence.
Batman's identity might be concealed from others, but it was unlikely to escape the notice of a sorcerer with mastery over time and foresight.
Another potential threat was Captain Marvel, Carol Danvers, who wielded immense power. Anton was sure she would never tolerate any single faction taking control of Earth.
As Nick Fury's strongest asset, she would inevitably clash with Anton's Justice League if their paths crossed.
"It's time for us to go, Anton. Stop zoning out!" Jim suddenly interrupted.
Snapping back to reality, Anton smiled, walked to the podium, and addressed the crowd confidently.
