Chapter 96: Three Or So Goals.
Wrath was silent for a while. Then she smiled and said, "How do I put this? There is good news and there is bad news."
Kelvin groaned. He didn't like the sound of that. The smile on Wrath's face also indicated bad things.
He sighed and said, "Just give it to me straight."
She started slowly, "The Purple Drag gang won. They beat Fire Rose away with her group of D-listers so you don't have to change your clothes."
Kelvin frowned and said, "That sounds like the good news. What's the bad news?"
Wrath's smile grew larger as she replied. "Purple Cloud didn't make it. She is dead. Fire Rose killed her. The Purple Drag gang is finished."
Kelvin shook his head and asked, "Are you happy now?"
She nodded. "Very happy."
He rubbed his face just thinking about all of his hard work gone to waste and the amount of work he has to do again.
He said, "It looks like we have to settle for the Black Mantis gang. But that is going to take a lot of work, and it is going to be difficult."
Wrath shrugged. "I don't care. It is not my job to care. Besides, I have faith in you. I'm sure you'll do a good job."

"Right. Here is to hoping Pauli has got the mental defense I need."
Wrath suggested again. "Or you could go the Null's route."
Kelvin groaned again. "That's even more work."
There are three reasons why he hasn't acquired any ability these past seven months. It is because he had three long term goals that he was busy with.
The first goal was money and power. He needed to work for a long time to acquire money and go through a lot of games to acquire power.
He has achieved some success in both, as currently he has 231 million dollars in savings and he is an E-rank Super. This goal would help him get better abilities and achieve his other goals, so it was important.
The second goal was working on his plans to have a narco gang and to also acquire the diamond skin ability. These plans took a lot of resources, time, and energy. Fortunately, this time and resources were not wasted. He was also able to achieve some success in them.
He was able to identify both the Black Mantis and Purple Drag gang as possible options for a takeover. He was also able to outline all he needed to take the diamond skin ability.
His plans were so good that he is ready to act on them, as seen by how well he infiltrates the Purple Drag gang. As for the diamond skin acquisition, all he needs is a mental defense target to kick it off.
Both of these two goals were more difficult to achieve than the third goal, but he hated the third goal the most. The third goal was to get a Null ability.
It is a good idea, but it will cost him too many game points to achieve something as powerful as the Patriarch's ability. It is because no single Null ability can be that powerful.
Nulls are a class of supers so they have a veritable number of abilities that are in that group. Some nulls only weaken speed, strength, defense, and stamina. Some only weaken abilities of the weapons class, physique class, or one of the other classes.
What's more, some only weaken by 10% or a certain percentage of the power of the ability. To top it off, most of them need physical contact of some kind to work. This is despite the fact that some nulls take effect immediately and some over time.
It is rare that a null will have an aura around them that can instantly nullify the ability of anyone that gets close to them. It is also pretty unique that a null will get more powerful the more people around them that they have nullified.
That is why the Patriarch is so powerful. He can try to create that kind of ability, and it should be easy because nulls to steal their destinies are easy to find. He will just have to fuse a lot of the nulls, which will cost him more game points than he can afford.
The silver lining is that if he can fuse so many nulls, he will be able to create something more powerful than the Patriarch's ability. So he has been saving game points for this option.
Despite the potential of this goal, he doesn't like it because it is a plan that won't bear fruit for a long time. The destiny games won't stop for him to accumulate game points for a good null ability.
Besides, he needs the games to acquire game points. So while he is saving, he will have to stop growing, which is something he has to bear for seven months.
He doesn't want to bear it anymore, but Wrath still encouraged him. "I'm just saying, with a null, you won't need a mental defense ability."
He didn't agree with that and began listing out why. "I know that. But what null ability? How can we be sure it will work? Also, a mental attack doesn't need physical contact, so the target can attack me from afar while I am trying to get close to them. The null ability is unlikely to protect me from their attacks either."
He shook his head. "With the right null, I might be able to take on the mental attack super. But that's like looking for a needle in a haystack. I'll rather just find an invulnerability ability or immunity ability."
Wrath suggested, "Better yet, you take the Patriarch's ability."
The suggestion made Kelvin chuckle as he began removing the shelves by the door. He said, "I want to do that, but we both know that is a death trap."
