Doraemon: Reborn As Dekisugi

Chapter 24: Chapter 23: Daily Life At School

Although jogging, running was still a few steps faster than walking, and it didn't make people feel particularly tired. It didn't make those who were not particularly determined by willpower feel so exhausted that they would give up.

Soon, with 40 minutes to spare before class, Dekisugi and Shizuka arrived at the school gate, hand in hand. Perhaps because of shyness, Shizuka pulled her little hand away with a blushing face. Dekisugi was stunned and dazed. Shizuka blushed slightly, smiled, and shook her head.

The little girl was quite shy, completely forgetting how old she was.

"Let's go, Shizuka, let's go to the classroom. By the way, I've already drawn a third of the manga for the first episode. Would you like to take a look?" Dekisugi remembered the drawings he had brought to school, along with some manga tools. Since there were still thirty or forty minutes before class, he thought it would be nice to let Shizuka look at the manga he drew to avoid boredom.

"Dekisugi, you've already drawn one-third of the manga so quickly? Isn't that a bit too fast?" Shizuka frowned. After all, a well-known artist with more than ten years of experience and a dozen assistants could take a week to draw one episode of manga. Yet, Dekisugi had already drawn one-third of an episode in one night. It seemed a bit too exaggerated.

Shizuka was skeptical about whether Dekisugi was rushing through it, but she was more tactful in expressing it than Nobita would be.

However, Dekisugi had been in society for a long time, even in his previous life. His understanding of words and emotions was still quite good, and he could tell exactly what Shizuka was thinking.

He smiled and nodded to Shizuka with his index finger.

"Because I've already thought of all the plots and details of the manga in my mind. All I need to do is copy out the content. Let's go; we'll show you my drawings in the classroom. It's not good for the teacher to see it here." There were people coming and going at the school gate, and although Japan's educational policies in 1988 were relatively open, teachers still reprimanded students for such things.

The two quickly arrived at the door of their classroom. Since it was still early, there weren't many people inside—only the class leaders and such.

Since Dekisugi and Shizuka's desks were next to each other, there was no need for Shizuka to leave her seat to look at the manga.

Dekisugi walked to his seat, put away his schoolbag, took out the sketches he had already drawn, and handed them to Shizuka. Then he got up and walked to the podium.

As the class monitor, Dekisugi had to clean the teacher's desk and organize the blackboard chalk and eraser before class every day.

Time passed quickly while Dekisugi tidied up the classroom and the podium.

Shizuka was fascinated by the manga Dekisugi had drawn. Fortunately, she was just finishing reading it when the class was about to start.

The students came into the classroom one by one as time passed. Of course, Nobita and Suneo had not arrived yet.

Jaian and Suneo, the two good friends, always seemed to arrive late, and this time was no different.

Just when Dekisugi was wondering why Jaian and Suneo were late, two panting voices could be heard.

Dekisugi saw two figures—one tall and one short, one fat and one thin—holding onto the door, panting heavily. They were likely running fast to avoid being late, looking quite tired.

"Morning, Dekisugi! Huh... Suneo we were almost late, so hurry up and get on the stool before the teacher comes." Jaian stood by the podium, staring blankly at Dekisugi. After greeting him, Jaian was about to return to his seat.

"Yes, yes, go back to your seat."

Even though he was very tired, Suneo still subconsciously agreed with Jaian and, without thinking, flattered him.

But Dekisugi glanced at the two of them and realized they had forgotten about today's test. Oh well. It was too late to remind them now.

Dekisugi shook his head, deciding not to say anything. He then clapped his hands and went back to his seat after confirming the podium had been tidied up.

Shizuka had secretly placed the finished drawings back on Dekisugi's desk, giving the artist a thumbs-up. She whispered to him, "Dekisugi, you draw so beautifully. I lost track of time reading it. You're amazing!"

Dekisugi subconsciously touched his head in embarrassment.

Why am I so excited because of the encouragement from a primary school student…?

But then again, Dekisugi was still very happy. It was always gratifying, no matter who or how old they were, when someone recognized your work.

Soon, the teacher walked into the classroom, wearing the serious and slightly old-fashioned suit that had remained unchanged for hundreds of years. He clapped his hands, and the noisy classroom fell silent. He cleared his throat twice and said:

"Okay! Be quiet, students. It's a new day. I don't know if you've done your homework? If you haven't, you'll be punished."

"Nobita! Nobita!"

The teacher called Nobita's name twice because it took a while for all the students to look over. It was faster to call directly, but the teacher was probably used to Nobita being late every day.

"Is Nobita late again? Forget it, Dekisugi, please collect all the students' homework first, and then we'll start class."

Dekisugi nodded in acknowledgment, stood up, and began to collect the homework.

Because the teacher had been in charge of this class for over three years, this was the fourth year. The students had become more conscientious about finishing their homework, except for Nobita, who had been trained from the first grade to the fourth. Of course, with the help of Doraemon, Nobita had improved a little by third grade. He was still occasionally late, but he did his homework more often now, although he was still at the bottom of the class.

Soon, Dekisugi had collected everyone's homework. The teacher was about to begin lecturing on the exercises, but the plan had been to start the test. The exam was considered a way for the teacher to relax—just handing out the papers and resting on the podium.

But since Nobita was still missing, it seemed better to wait for him to come so that he could take the test too. After all, there was still time.

"Report… Report," came a meek voice from the door.
