Engineer of the Gansekigan: Rebirth in the Village Hidden in the Rain

Chapter 9: Tsunade and Kushina's Farewell

The last days in Amegakure passed with laughter and moments of camaraderie. The Rain Village, long marked by war and tension, now felt like a temporary refuge of peace and joy. Kaito, though a renowned businessman and engineer, also knew how to enjoy the simplest moments in life. These days, more than just a break from his work, were an opportunity to strengthen bonds and appreciate the little things.

The house where Kaito lived with his parents and Konan had changed drastically. What was once a modest home had now transformed into a much larger and more comfortable place, thanks to the improvements Kaito had made with his technological knowledge. He had expanded the rooms, reinforced the structure, and added various amenities, including a play area and a garden with automatic irrigation systems—something completely new for the village. It was a place that reflected his success and, at the same time, his deep bond with his adoptive family and his companion, Konan.

The day had arrived—Kaito's 9th birthday. Though it was a special day for him, the celebration became even more meaningful due to the presence of Tsunade, Kushina, and the rest of the village inhabitants. However, the true surprise was not the event itself, but how the small gathering turned into an emotional, laughter-filled reunion—and, of course, a bit of jealousy.

The day started like any other, but with a festive air that could be felt throughout the house. Konan, despite her usual reserved and serious nature, had helped prepare a small surprise party for her lifelong companion, who had been a great influence on both her and the village. The decorations were simple but effective—handmade banners and vibrantly colored flowers adorned the main hall, while a cake, made by Konan, sat at the center of the table. The celebration was modest but filled with affection.

When Kaito woke up, he was surprised by the decorations. At first, he thought it was a joke, but seeing the smiling faces of everyone present, he realized that Konan, in her peculiar way, had organized the surprise. The ninjas of Amegakure had gathered to congratulate him, and not just the villagers—Tsunade and little Kushina had decided to stay until the very last moment before returning to Konoha.

—So today's my day? —Kaito asked with a playful smile as he glanced at Konan, who couldn't help but blush slightly, though she hid her discomfort behind her blue hair.

—Yes —Konan replied with a faint smile—. You deserve it.

Tsunade, watching from a corner, couldn't help but chuckle. The way Kaito and Konan interacted had always caught her attention. There was an undeniable connection between them, something beyond words—a deep understanding. Even so, something else stood out to her, something she hadn't noticed so clearly before.

Little Kushina, on the other hand, was beyond excited. It had been a week of fun for her, an experience she would never forget. From the games Kaito had invented to the long walks through the village, everything had fascinated her. But today, in particular, she felt like the luckiest girl in the world. In her mind, Kaito's birthday was a personal celebration, as if she, in some way, was also part of this special day. Her face lit up as she saw the table filled with sweets and treats, along with the cake Konan had made.

—Happy birthday, Kaito! —Kushina exclaimed, running toward him with a small wooden box she had crafted by hand. Inside was a necklace made of bright stones, something she had found during one of their walks through the village.

Kaito, touched by the gesture, knelt down to take the box, smiling warmly.

—Wow, thank you so much, Kushina! —he said, gently ruffling her hair—. This is the best gift I could receive.

Tsunade watched the scene with a calm smile, but something in her heart couldn't help but feel a little... jealous. It wasn't about Kushina's gesture, but rather how Kaito received so much affection. There was something about the way he interacted with her and everyone present that made her feel more connected, closer to him. Perhaps a part of her wished to experience the same.

The party continued with laughter and more games, and everything seemed perfect. However, something was changing in Konan, and she couldn't ignore the small gestures that revealed her unease. In the middle of the celebration, while Kaito was chatting with Tsunade and Kushina, Konan started pacing around the room, clearly restless. She approached the table with the cake, cut a slice, and when she handed it to Kaito, she made sure to be very close to him.

—I hope you like it —Konan said, almost without looking at him directly, shifting slightly behind him. There was something in her tone that was hard to ignore.

Kaito, noticing the difference in Konan's behavior, looked at her with curiosity. He couldn't fully understand what was going on, but he knew enough to realize that something was off.

—Thanks, Konan —Kaito replied with a smile—. It's delicious, as always.

Konan nodded, though her face didn't show the same joy as before. However, her jealousy didn't go unnoticed by Tsunade, who, with her experience, had begun to pick up on the subtle signs. Tsunade couldn't help but find the situation amusing; she, too, had seen how Kaito and Konan interacted. There was such an obvious connection between them that, unintentionally, she found the situation rather funny.

—Seems like the party is complete, huh? —Tsunade commented with a playful smile, watching Konan from across the room.

Konan lifted her gaze, almost surprised by Tsunade's remark. But instead of feeling uncomfortable, she merely sighed softly and stepped closer to Kaito, determined not to let her jealousy interfere any further. She knew that, despite everything, Kaito would always support her.

The afternoon continued with more laughter, games, and lighthearted conversations. Kaito, enjoying his day, felt surrounded by genuine affection from everyone present. As the celebration neared its end and daylight began to fade, Tsunade and Kushina prepared to return to Konoha. The farewell was emotional but cheerful, with the promise to stay in touch.

—Thank you for everything, Kaito —Tsunade said, embracing him briefly—. This has been... more than I expected.

Kaito smiled, his gaze fixed on Tsunade.

—There's no need to thank me. I hope our bond continues to grow, no matter the distance.

Kushina, hugging Kaito tightly, also bid him farewell with a bright grin.

—See you soon, Kaito! I'll come back to learn more things!

As they finally left, Konan and Kaito stood at the door, watching their guests disappear down the road. Though there was sadness in the farewell, both knew that this bond was only the beginning of something greater.

However, Konan couldn't help but sigh as she saw Kaito smiling while watching Tsunade walk away. It wasn't just a farewell smile—it was something more, something she couldn't quite explain.

—Don't worry, Konan —Kaito said, gently taking her hand—. I'll always be here for you.

Konan nodded, but she couldn't stop watching Tsunade's figure until she vanished from sight.
