Genshin Impact: The God Incarnate

Chapter 45: Chapter 046: Hastus Stirs Trouble

Above the Clouds

What began as a simple table and chair, adorned with a set of elegant tea ware, gradually became something much grander. The serene setup exuded a sense of calm, though the cola within the tea set amusingly disrupted the atmosphere.

When Vorthis had idle time, he took it upon himself to add more to the clouds.

Soon enough, a glass pavilion stood tall atop the clouds, its ethereal beauty accentuated by the mist swirling gently within.

The scene could only be described as otherworldly.

Vorthis held a teacup, imitating Morax's mannerisms, savoring the cola sip by sip. However, this refined approach didn't last long before he found it too unsatisfying.

Abandoning formality, Vorthis grabbed the teapot and drank directly from it, letting out a contented sigh afterward.

Ah, how delightful it would be to invite a few friends to enjoy the mystical mist and watch graceful dances among the clouds.

Surely, this must be the life of the gods.

Cough, cough. Better not dwell on such thoughts.

Would Vorthis, of all people, become someone who only indulges in pleasure all day? Impossible!

No, Vorthis was determined to bring order to the world, provide a livelihood for the people, preserve ancient wisdom, and pave the way for eternal peace.

Whether others believed it or not mattered little—Vorthis believed it himself.

Progress Over Time

Months turned into years.

Guili's plains, where Vorthis had established his domain, were a vast expanse covered in blooming glaze lilies. However, trees were scarce.

In this nascent city, the wooden structures required abundant lumber. Vorthis considered summoning a box of wood directly but dismissed the idea as unfit for his role as a God.

He wasn't here to babysit; he was here to guide. Letting the people handle their tasks would aid their growth.

Guili might lack timber, but Liyue had no such shortage.

Before Vorthis's arrival, Liyue was merely a small settlement surrounded by dense forests. Since agriculture flourished under his influence, the forests had been largely cleared.

With more timber than needed for Liyue's buildings, excess wood was either crafted into furniture, utensils, or decorations—or simply left unused.

Transporting this wood to Guili became a solution, supplemented by laborers from Liyue tasked with additional logging.

After over a year of development, a proper road connecting the two cities emerged.

As Lu Xun once said, "There is no path in the world—paths are made by walking."

With roads and resting camps for transport caravans established, Vorthis no longer needed to manually ferry goods between the cities using a giant box.

Security and Self-Sufficiency

Transport caravans were safeguarded by protective talismans blessed by Vorthis. Should danger arise, breaking the talisman would activate a shield, pushing away threats and signaling Vorthis.

Initially, Vorthis considered creating long-range teleportation talismans for emergencies but dismissed the idea.

Why?

Imagine those talismans persisting into future generations, only to be used by some golden-haired traveler during an unforeseen calamity, summoning him with a loud cry:

"Come forth, Lord Feather God!"

The thought alone was mortifying.

Instead, Vorthis devised a more practical solution, ensuring the caravans' safety without such dramatic consequences.

Growth and Disruption

With wood secured, construction flourished in Guili. The city's once-barren land transformed, with its first residential areas emerging.

From above, the city now resembled more than a fortress. Though still far from complete, its development was undeniable.

Months passed like the blink of an eye for Vorthis. As he cultivated his strength, he watched his city grow with quiet satisfaction.

But such peace wasn't destined to last.

One day, while meditating, Vorthis sensed an unfamiliar God's presence approaching.

It wasn't the God of Dust nor Morax.

"An unfamiliar God..."

"Deliberately approaching..."

What was their intention?

With a wave of his hand, Vorthis shrouded Guili in a protective white barrier, standing to confront this visitor.

Below, the land seemed disturbed, as if a swamp was moving toward him.

"Stop. You've reached Guili," Vorthis declared, appearing before the expanding mire.

The swamp bubbled and surged until a monstrous, humanoid figure emerged. Its features were grotesque, composed entirely of mud.

Vorthis frowned at the sight. The pristine environment surrounding Guili was now marred by the swamp's presence.

Its form and domain felt familiar—was this the Swamp God, Hastus, seeking to claim Guili's plains?

Why approach Vorthis instead of the God of Dust?

Did Hastus think him an easy target?

"You must be the God of Manifestation, Zennos," Hastus rumbled in a low voice.

Having subdued the territories of four Gods surrounding the God of Dust, Hastus had long eyed her domain.

However, news of her alliance with Morax and Zennos disrupted his plans, forcing him to reevaluate their strength.

Gods of Dust and Geo joining forces was a significant obstacle. But Hastus believed in exploiting a time gap, defeating them one by one.

To him, Zennos appeared the weakest.

Hastus sneered inwardly. This newcomer, hiding under Morax's protection—surely he's no match for me.
