Chapter 209: Dominating In An Unplanned Love Comedy With Muscle Cheat
As I played soccer, I felt a strange sense of déjà vu.
It was like in the army when the company commander got the ball, and the opposing defenders parted like the Red Sea.
“Ah! Get out of the way!”
It felt like when a foreign sports car hits the road, the regular domestic cars naturally move aside.
“Save me!”
It was like when a giant monster appears in the city, and the police desperately stall for time until the Earth Defense Force arrives.
Uh, maybe this example is a bit off?
“He’s coming! Block him with your life!”
“Those sneaky 2-B guys! They brought their secret weapon, Kim Yu-seong!”
Anyway, I ran all over the wide field. For someone like me who played purely with physical power rather than skill, positions like striker, winger, or midfielder didn’t mean much.
In that sense, our captain, Shimamura, had a sharp eye.
“Move!”
As I reached the goalpost, I gave a warning before taking the shot.
I knew that kicking with full force would burst the ball, so I planned to hold back a bit, but I couldn’t guarantee what would happen if someone got hit.
And whether it was the warning or something else, the defenders in front of me were startled and moved aside.
Only then did I calmly take the shot.
Bang!!
“Did that just sound like a cannon?!”
“How are we supposed to stop that?!”
The ball, spinning violently, curved as it flew toward the opponent’s goal.
The captain of Class 2-D screamed to block it, but the goalkeeper froze in front of the goal and didn’t move a step.
The soccer ball shook the net.
The gym teacher, confirming the result, blew the whistle and raised the flag.
“1-0!”
I was in perfect condition.
In the end, the match against Class 2-D ended in a 7-1 victory.
Honestly, even I thought it was a bit much, so I barely played as an attacker in the second half, but just my presence on the field seemed to put overwhelming pressure on them.
“Thanks! We breezed through the preliminaries thanks to you! Let’s count on you for the semifinals and finals too!”
I chuckled as I accepted Shimamura’s hug, his face full of gratitude, and then I asked Ayase, who was managing the entire schedule for the tournament.
“So, where are we going next?”
“Among the morning matches, the one you can join as a sub is probably this one.”
As Ayase spoke, she showed me a rectangular field with six circles drawn on it.
I casually rolled my shoulders and asked.
“Dodgeball?”
Ayase shook her head and said,
“No, volleyball.”
And so, my next task was set.
Event 2: Volleyball.
In reality, volleyball was a sport where teamwork was more important than individual skills.
Of course, there were star players, but unlike soccer or basketball, you couldn’t do everything alone, so coordinating with other team members was crucial.
“Let’s do our best today.”
“Yeah.”
Nagasawa Kanna, the tallest girl in the volleyball club aside from me.
Normally, I didn’t have many opportunities to talk to her, so this was our first real conversation.
“Yu-seong, since you’re tall and have long arms, I want you to play as a middle blocker.”
“Middle blocker?”
“Yeah, your main job is to stand in the center and block the opponent’s attacks.”
It was a role that suited me perfectly.
Before entering the match, I got a crash course in volleyball rules and techniques, and before I even memorized them, I was thrown into the game.
Our opponent in the preliminaries was Class 2-E.
Unlike soccer, volleyball teams were mixed-gender, so honestly, they didn’t seem very strong.
The preliminary match started in the gym, with just one court separating us.
“Start the match!”
Class 2-E had the first serve.
With the setter’s serve, the volleyball floated into the air.
‘…That’s slow.’
Most people would consider this fast, but unfortunately, compared to the movements of the people I’d fought before, it wasn’t even close.
I didn’t even need to run; just reaching out was enough to block it.
The opposing hitter, with a panicked expression, hurriedly received the ball, but with a casual swing of my arm, the ball went back over the net, resulting in an easy point.
This all happened within about five seconds of the match starting.
My team, standing behind me, stared in disbelief, but honestly, I didn’t think I did anything amazing, so I awkwardly scratched the back of my head.
Kim Yu-seong.
This was her first time talking to him.
Actually, she had known about Kim Yu-seong since their first year.
That was because there were all these scary rumors about him being an elite yakuza or the heir to an assassination technique.
But from her perspective, spending more time training in the clubroom than studying in the classroom, those rumors didn’t really concern her.
Besides, they were in different classes, so they never crossed paths.
But then, when they moved up to the second year, they ended up in the same class.
‘At first, I was scared.’
Nagasawa Kanna was 186 cm tall.
Taller than most high school boys.
That’s why her nickname in elementary school was “Crane Legs.”
She was the typical prince, always stepping in to protect girls when boys bullied them.
That continued into middle and high school, and her superior physical condition got her scouted into the volleyball club right away.
Honestly, before meeting him, she had never felt fear toward any boy.
But then…
‘Kim Yu-seong was the first boy taller than me.’
The situation had changed.
She was used to looking down at others, so looking up at someone was a new experience for her.
And contrary to the scary rumors, he presented himself as a model student in class.
He respected the teachers and always tried to help when someone asked for it.
Of course, some students overreacted to everything he did, but from her perspective, it was just misunderstandings based on his appearance.
Anyway, this was a rare opportunity.
Despite his intimidating appearance, he was actually shy, so she never approached him before, but now that they were on the same team, she could naturally strike up a conversation.
As Nagasawa looked at Kim Yu-seong’s broad shoulders in front of the court, she felt an unexpected sense of calm.
‘Is this what they call reliable?’
For some reason, it felt like she wouldn’t lose any match with him by her side.
Badump♥ Badump♥
Her heart pounded with a euphoric feeling.
Unconsciously, Nagasawa flashed a charming smile and shouted,
“Kim Yu-seong! The next play is a quick attack!”
“Match over! Class 2-B wins!”
As soon as the volleyball hit the opponent’s court, a sharp whistle echoed through the gym.
“We won!”
The team members embraced each other, soaked in the joy of victory.
Standing at the back, watching the scene with satisfaction, I turned my head as I sensed someone next to me.
It was Nagasawa, the main player of our team.
“Kim Yu-seong, good job.”
“Oh, thanks.”
After wiping my sweat with the towel she handed me, I asked for her honest assessment of the match.
“You were great.”
“Aren’t you praising me too much?”
“No, really. I’ve never seen a better blocker than you. It’s almost a shame your talent is going to waste.”
“If you’re ever interested in volleyball, just let me know. I’ll teach you.”
Saying that, Nagasawa patted my shoulder and walked over to her fan club members who had been watching from the stands.
Watching her back as she walked away, I reflected on the match with a wry smile.
‘That was ridiculously easy.’
Our team had volleyball club members, while the opposing team didn’t, but overall, they just seemed like a disorganized bunch.
Well, it wasn’t a real tournament, just something where the class picked random members, so it couldn’t be helped.
Anyway, with this, we scored an overwhelming victory in volleyball, following our win in soccer.
There were still about three more events left, but it wouldn’t be surprising if other classes started trying to block us.
Honestly, my participation in these matches was like an adult joining a kids’ fight.
And as expected, when I went to play in the third event, baseball, we were banned from all ball games due to complaints from other classes about fairness.
“This is a problem.”
“Damn, it’s a miscalculation.”
Ayase was biting her nails, clearly frustrated that her perfect plan to score easy points using me, the all-purpose sub, had gone awry.
“Still, the teachers were considerate enough to let us compete in the relay and the cavalry battle. We’ll have to be content with that.”
I wouldn’t be able to participate in the next soccer and volleyball matches, but we still had the result of cruising through the preliminaries.
Unlike the other teams, whose stamina would be greatly drained by back-to-back matches, our team had almost been lounging around, so we gained a significant advantage.
When I pointed that out, Ayase finally sighed and seemed to accept the situation.
“Well, what’s done is done. But I can still count on you to shine in the remaining events, right?”
“Of course.”
When I said that with a grin, Ayase scratched her head with a pen and spoke gruffly, almost as if embarrassed.
“Don’t smile. It makes me get attached.”
