I’m the Only One Who Can’t See Ghosts

Chapter 103: The Middle School of Storm (6)

The girl stood frozen, as if rooted to the spot.

"Why did you do this?"

"You must have known Cheon Siyeon from the class next door would hear about it."

"Na Jooyeon, what were you thinking?"

"No way, no way..."

At that moment, a memory flashed through her mind. It was a fragment of her past when she lived as the secret weapon of the sect.

Back then, she had been asked a question:

‘Do you want to understand this world? Or do you want to believe in it?’

The one who asked her that question was the master who resonated with the heavens and the earth—the lord of the universe—who would later be known as the Eternal One. At the time, the girl had answered that she wanted to believe in this world.

But upon hearing her response, the master had only looked at her with a pained expression. After experiencing several incidents, the girl finally came to understand the meaning behind that expression.

For those who chose to believe in this world, there were only two possible endings: either they closed their eyes and died still believing, or they opened their eyes, unable to endure, and came to realize the truth.

Amidst the pain, the girl opened her eyes.

And she came to know the world.

From that point on, she no longer believed in the world.

And she never would again.

But.

"Na Jooyeon. I..."

How much time had passed?

It seemed like at least five minutes.

Judging by the fact that the teacher would be arriving soon.

The other students were starting to sit down, while a few glanced sideways at Jamsuni, as if to say, "What’s with her?"

But Jamsuni didn’t care about their stares and stepped out of the classroom.

During the usual morning rush when students hurried into their classrooms to greet the teacher, a group of students was leaving the fifth classroom on the first floor, used by first-years.

Their faces didn’t look happy.

"Cheon Seong-moon's granddaughter Cheon Siyeon is in Class 5 of the first-year students."

Jamsuni began running toward the first-year Class 5.

When she arrived, what she saw was almost exactly as she had imagined: a psychic mercilessly beating the perpetrator.

The psychic’s physical abilities were inherently stronger than those of ordinary people. A skilled psychic could blow off someone’s head with a single punch if they wanted to.

Thankfully, Cheon Siyeon wasn’t that skilled. She was still a clumsy psychic who didn’t fully grasp the mystery of balancing a healthy body with a healthy mind.

“Hah, haha... This criminal dares to defy me...”

And that’s how Na Jooyeon managed to stay alive.

Although her arms and legs were broken, and her entire body was covered in bruises.

Although blood was dripping from her forehead, and her gaze seemed dazed.

Na Jooyeon muttered to Jamsuni:

“Ugh... idiot... I told you to run away...”

Then Cheon Siyeon noticed Jamsuni.

Cheon Siyeon couldn’t hide her surprised expression as she looked at Jamsuni, then awkwardly smiled and used her foot to push Na Jooyeon away.

More accurately, she kicked her with all her strength.

Boom—Crash!

Na Jooyeon was thrown into a corner of the classroom, and Cheon Siyeon muttered something.

“Don’t mind whatever that girl said. What was your name again? Kim Sojin, right? I want to be friends with you.”

“I don’t want to be friends with you.”

“...What?”

Jamsuni began to draw on her spiritual power.

Using spiritual abilities would incur penalties from Sodo for violating the contract. However, Jamsuni also bore the responsibility of supplying energy to Sodo.

Supplying energy alone wouldn’t be considered a use of spiritual power. With this thought in mind, Jamsuni steadied her stance.

Jamsuni braced herself, ready to fight without the use of spiritual power—no physical enhancements through Yang energy, no soul-reading, no auxiliary abilities. A true psychic fighting on pure skill alone.

‘This shouldn’t incur a penalty.’

Resolving her thoughts, Jamsuni took a fighting stance. Seeing this, Cheon Siyeon laughed in disbelief.

"Ha, even when I try to play nice... Why does this criminal think she can act up? Do you really think I’m some idiot just because I couldn’t get into Cheonji Academy?"

To be honest, Jamsuni did think she was an idiot.

And thus, the fight between Jamsuni and Cheon Siyeon began.

Predictably, it was a one-sided victory for Jamsuni.

None of Cheon Siyeon’s attacks landed, while every strike from Jamsuni hit its mark.

"Ugh, ugh! Why? How can you dodge everything, you worthless criminal?!"

In the Class 5 homeroom of Changseong Middle School's first-year wing, a breathtakingly beautiful girl stood emotionless, looking at her fallen opponent. The defeated girl whimpered as she spoke.

"You… you’re dead. I’ll never forgive you."

Lying on the ground, Cheon Siyeon muttered:

"Do you even know who Changseong master is? He’s capable of celestial arts and ranks alongside the gods of Cheonji. You probably don’t even know what celestial arts are, you stupid criminal. You’re insane. Absolutely crazy."

Jamsuni thought to herself.

So, even a second-rate celestial artist dares to call himself a master of the Moon Sect?

‘I could wipe them out in an hour.’

"Ah, this is exhausting. After all, I…"

Jamsuni only knew how to fight—to kill or be killed.

Was she really someone who thought she could save anyone?

Did she still want to believe in this world?

Did she still know so little about it?

At that moment, Jamsuni felt the will of Sodo ripple. It was as if Sodo was shouting, poised to deliver a penalty at any moment.

‘As if I’d fear a penalty from something as trivial as a spiritual vessel…’

But Jamsuni couldn’t finish her sentence.

This kind of penalty wasn’t something she had anticipated.

“Sodo stripped the celestial memories… so that’s what this is. A spiritual vessel capable of manipulating memory. That’s why this kind of penalty is possible.”

It was faint.

Faint, but undeniably present.

Sodo couldn’t erase the memories of an Eternal One like her, but it could read them and wield them as a threat. Jamsuni understood the warning loud and clear.

Her past as Kim Sojin, the Eternal One, rippled through her mind. The battles against the Sects, the endless wars with Cheonji, the clashes with the Ghost Kings.

Years spent washing away blood with more blood.

Days when she was more a demon than any demon.

Her unshakable, undeniable past.

It stirred, not with exaggeration or lies, but pure, unfiltered truth. Sodo's message was clear: if she used her abilities, these memories would be revealed here and now.

‘The homeroom teacher saw this situation earlier and ran off in shock. They’ve probably already called Yoo Hajin.’

Sighing, Jamsuni looked down at Cheon Siyeon and spoke with exasperation.

"Consider yourself lucky."

"W-what? Are you insane?"

Jamsuni hoisted Na Jooyeon onto her back. Frankly, carrying someone taller than herself without physical enhancement was heavy, but she had no choice.

Once they left Sodo's territory, she could heal Joo-yeon using Yang energy. But Jooyeon , oblivious to this, muttered weakly:

"Idiot… you fool… she’s a psychic. What are you even going to do? Why did you provoke her?"

"Idiot? Fool? That’s you. What were you thinking picking a fight with Cheon Siyeon?"

"I… I just…"

"You’re so damn heavy. Shut up already. You go on about dieting, but every time you snack…"

Jamsuni staggered.

Why had she faltered?

It was because something she assumed would remain still had moved. Na Jooyeon, with her broken arm, had pushed her away. Even as she did, her hair was being grabbed by a man.

On the man's blurtial arts uniform, the word Changseong was embroidered.

They were disciples of the Changseong Sect.

"Go… Run… Get out of here! Aaaaaah!"

"You traitorous wench."

The one who seemed to be the leader of the Changseong disciples stomped on Na Jooyeon’s broken arm. Jamsuni glanced at them, calculating her odds.

‘They’re here already. Were they stationed at Changseong Middle School from the beginning? There’s no way I can face this kind of force without using my abilities.’

The only option was to abandon Na Jooyeon and escape.

She couldn’t ignore the penalties Sodo would impose. Yoo Hajin was already on his way. She couldn’t let Yoo Hajin discover her past.

Everyone who learned her past had either feared, despised, or avoided her.

If Yoo Hajin reacted the same way…

Just imagining it made her heart feel like it would shatter.

And so, Jamsuni turned to flee.

But just as she diverted her gaze from Na Jooyeon and moved to escape, she caught a glimpse of Na Jooyeon’s expression—it was one of relief. A look that seemed to say, Now you’ll be dragged to the Changseong Sect, tortured, and killed.

But why that expression?

‘I can’t change the past. I don’t want to know about a world like this. I hate hearing Na Jooyeon’s cries of pain. But I already know what this world is like. Even Yoo Hajin and Na Jooyeon will fear me and run once they know my past. You’re a monster. And yet… I still want to believe in this world.’

‘Yeah, truthfully, I wanted to believe in this world, too.’

And with that thought, the power of the Eternal One awakened.

"Hahahahahaha! A monster that devours souls—monster, monster, monster!"

The Changseong disciples, upon seeing her transformation, immediately fled with looks of ecstatic terror, as though they had seen a divine being.

And then, Sodo’s penalty began.

Fragments of the Eternal One’s past started to unfold.

A past so brutal, horrifying, and unspeakable that it could only be called divine in its sheer incomprehensibility. The past of a girl, whose life had been marked by nothing but endless carnage.

Na Jooyeon, witnessing this, was consumed by terror. She forgot about her broken limbs and dpsychicately crawled away.

"A god… a monster… I don’t understand… I don’t want to understand."

Without saying a word, the Eternal One unleashed her Yang energy, healing Na Jooyeon’s injuries. The girl, unaware of why her body had miraculously recovered, ran away without looking back.

Watching Na Jooyeon disappear into the distance, the Eternal One hung her head.

"Jamsuni."

From afar, Yoo Hajin’s voice echoed.

Yoo Hajin would undoubtedly act like everyone else—either run in fear or brace themselves for battle after realizing the truth of her monstrous past. It had always been this way.

That was the price she paid for once believing in this world.

She couldn’t bear to look at Yoo Hajin.

"Shit, you’re not hurt anywhere, are you? Oh, thank god...!"

"???"

But Yoo Hajin ran up to her and threw their arms around her.

****

Finally, I’d found her.

Damn it, why wasn’t the homeroom teacher answering their phone?

"Jamsuni."

The empty hallway stretched before me, devoid of anything but Jamsuni.

The girl avoided my gaze, her face trembling as though she might cry.

Yeah, I guess she caused quite the scene this time.

It had been a long time since I’d seen her looking so defeated.

"Shit, you’re not hurt anywhere, are you? Oh, thank god...!"

I pulled Kim Sojin into a hug and immediately checked her for injuries.

"You’re okay, right?"

And then, Sojin started to sob.
