Chapter 123: Chapter 124: How Could This Happen
The Demon King's composed demeanor vanished instantly. Han Yu, who had been preparing his attack for some time, unleashed the dual ultimate techniques of ice and fire in a single, devastating strike.
The sheer power of this attack far exceeded the Demon King's capabilities, leaving no doubt about its destructive potential.
Gathering every ounce of energy in his body, the Demon King conjured a massive shield in front of him. He could tell this was an overwhelming attack. Running away without any defense would lead to certain death, but standing his ground might give him a sliver of hope for survival.
Even the Demon King, in the face of Han Yu, was merely seeking a faint chance to live.
The dual ultimate techniques of ice and fire were no mere boasts. Even though Han Yu was only at level 25, the raw data spoke volumes. His attacks were formidable enough that even a level-98 Demon King couldn't take them lightly.
Han Yu's strike shattered the Demon King's shield, which had been formed from half of his energy, into pieces. The Demon King lowered the shield, expecting Han Yu to slow down after using two ultimate techniques right off the bat.
The Demon King had planned to use the brief pause to escape, recover, and return later to fight again. But Han Yu didn't pause, didn't even utter a word. Instead, he ran his hand along the blade of his sword, turning it fiery red in an instant.
"A magic sword? That's advanced magic! And he's wielding it so effortlessly—he's even skipping the incantation!"
The Demon King's face turned ashen. All he could think about now was finding an opportunity to flee. But the person standing before him was Han Yu, and the system had tasked Han Yu with "meticulously completing this mission."
This mission meant that Han Yu was determined not to leave the Demon King alive, even if it meant exhausting his energy. The Demon King was truly doomed this time.
He had never imagined that despite his careful decision to confront the newly risen hero personally, he would still end up being defeated. It defied logic!
Previously, when fighting a few goblins, Han Yu had unleashed several powerful moves. Now, facing the Demon King, Han Yu deployed dozens of ultimate techniques, bombarding the ground until it caved into a bottomless crater. Only then did he stop.
"What… what just happened? Did we encounter a Goblin King this time?"
Lisette muttered in shock. Just moments ago, she had been peacefully asleep, only to be jolted awake by a massive explosion. With her hair still a mess like a bird's nest, she rushed over to the scene.
She saw Han Yu repeatedly unleashing ultimate techniques into a giant crater. She had wanted to stop him earlier, but Han Yu was relentless, launching one attack after another as if he were tireless. It was like a world war was unfolding before her eyes.
The Demon King, buried beneath the ground, met the same fate as Chaos before him—reduced to nothing, not even ashes remained. Even in death, he couldn't comprehend how Han Yu's power could be so overwhelming.
If it had been any other hero, the Demon King might have easily wiped them out after their victory over Chaos. But this time, he encountered Han Yu—a player who seemed to have entered the game with cheat codes.
It didn't matter if the Demon King's level was higher. Han Yu's stats were simply superior. Even a basic attack could instantly kill him. What more was there to say?
"Branch task completed: [Exterminate the Demon King]. Reward: 300 upgrade points!"
Han Yu murmured, "Why did this guy show up so early? Couldn't he have sent a few more mini-bosses my way? I was planning to make a fortune here. Sigh… Well, this is just barely enough to level up. How could this happen!"
"What did you say?" Lisette didn't catch his words.
"Nothing. Let's go back. The Demon King has been eliminated," Han Yu replied calmly, sheathing his long sword.
"Eliminated? Are you saying that the person who was in this crater… was the Demon King?" Lisette was still trying to wrap her head around it. How could the Demon King be dead after just one nap?
Han Yu glanced at the deep crater and said, "That man we met in the town earlier, the one named 'Kane,' was the Demon King. He probably tried to hide his strength and blend in, thinking he could toy with us. But I saw through him. He couldn't even beat me. So weak."
Lisette stared blankly at Han Yu, utterly stunned. In her eyes, he was no longer just an ordinary hero. She gazed at him and murmured, "You're actually the Demon King, aren't you? That must be it. This is an S-class world—there's no way the Demon King could be defeated so easily. Who are you, really? You're definitely not an ordinary human from Earth!"
Hearing someone question his identity yet again, Han Yu hesitated for a moment. Then, he retrieved a teleportation scroll from the general store's system and smiled at her. "I'm just a passing general store owner. If you ever need anything, feel free to drop by."
With that, he tightened his grip on the scroll, and in an instant, the scroll absorbed him and transported him back to his Marvel universe.
In Gaia Brand, only a floating business card was left in front of Lisette. She reached out, and the card fell into her hand. As always, it was simple and unadorned, with only two lines of text:
The General Store.
Han Yu.
Returning to his general store, Han Yu wasted no time. He sprinted upstairs, heading straight to his room. To ensure no interruptions, he even locked the door behind him.
"Boss, you're back! Want something to eat?" Ultron's voice called from the second floor. His sudden disappearance and reappearance had long ceased to surprise them. If Han Yu vanished without a trace, it usually meant he had ventured into another world.
"No need. I'm busy. Just don't disturb me," Han Yu called out toward the door. After Ultron acknowledged his request, Han Yu softly said, "System, settle the task: [Save Gaia Brand]!"
"Task settlement in progress… Settlement complete. Reward: 317 upgrade points!"
"You have a special item, 'Shinigami Attire,' which can be converted into 50 upgrade points. Would you like to proceed with the conversion?"
"Don't convert it. Send it to the warehouse," Han Yu replied, suppressing the wave of dizziness brought on by the large sum of points. He resisted his excitement and maintained composure.
The Shinigami Attire wasn't cheap in the general store. Even a basic version cost 40-50 upgrade points, and the captain-style attire was worth about 100 points. However, the system's recycling value was brutally low, cutting the price in half. It was borderline robbery.
Han Yu muttered to himself, "If only the Demon King hadn't shown up so early. It's my first time encountering a final boss at the first stage. Otherwise, this mission could've easily earned over a thousand upgrade points."
With the addition of points from each branch task, Han Yu now had a total of 900 upgrade points, which brought a grin to his face. At the same time, he couldn't help but feel a twinge of regret.
What a golden opportunity to farm upgrade points, yet the Demon King couldn't hold his impatience and appeared far too early. Han Yu couldn't risk leaving the Demon King to tag along behind him.
According to the mission's requirements, if he let the Demon King go, it wouldn't count as cautiously completing the task. After all, this was a Demon King, not a level-one slime you'd find anywhere. Even a slight misstep could spell disaster.
Thus, to fulfill the mission, Han Yu had no choice but to take the initiative and eliminate the Demon King. Otherwise, the loss would outweigh the gain.
