Marvel: Death Knight

Chapter 59: Chapter 59: Chaos Unleashed

"Reporting, Commander, the surrounding streets have been completely sealed off." Natasha Romanoff and Clint Barton didn't immediately move to assist, despite Fury's orders.

Natasha believed Peter Parker needed more real-world combat experience to improve. Over the past few days of training, she'd observed his superhuman strength, agility, and keen senses. Yet his fighting style relied purely on instinct, with little regard for conserving energy.

For now, though, she figured he could hold his own. If things went south, he could always outrun Ghost Rider—at least in her opinion.

Ghost Rider fought relentlessly, his chains extending unpredictably to ensnare Parker's legs several times, narrowly missing each time.

"Move in!" After over ten minutes of observation, Natasha noticed Parker showing signs of fatigue. With a wave of her hand, S.H.I.E.L.D. agents emerged from their hidden positions.

Knowing conventional weapons wouldn't work against their foe, the agents brought out heavy artillery, including rocket launchers and machine guns.

Parker swung through the air, aiming a powerful kick to send Ghost Rider into a fountain at the center of the plaza. But a whistling sound caught his attention. A rocket flew past him, hitting their target and exploding mid-air, leaving a fiery trail.

Turning, Parker saw a squad of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents materialize, unleashing a barrage of firepower on Ghost Rider.

He muttered in frustration, "I can handle this! Just a little longer, and I would've had him…"

Before he could finish, a chain shot out from the barrage, wrapping around his neck.

"Cease fire!" Natasha shouted as Ghost Rider dragged Parker toward him. She quickly stopped the agents' assault.

"Hot! Hot! Hot!" Parker yelped, tugging at the chain burning his hands and neck. If he were an ordinary person, he'd have been reduced to ash.

"Parker, how many times have I told you? Never lose focus in battle until you're sure of your enemy's status," Natasha scolded from the sidelines.

Rolling his eyes, Parker retorted, "Teacher, maybe help me out here? I can't breathe!"

As the dust settled, Ghost Rider reemerged unscathed, his clothes intact, the flames of his hellfire eyes dancing. He pulled Parker closer with both hands, chains tightening.

Hawkeye fired an explosive arrow, striking Ghost Rider's hand. The blast forced him to drop the chain, freeing Parker.

Agents surrounded Ghost Rider once more, their relentless assault forcing him back. It seemed the tide was turning, with Ghost Rider showing signs of exhaustion.

Suddenly, a figure dropped from the sky.

"Boom!" The impact cracked the pavement, sending shockwaves through the area.

"Ganging up on one person? That's not very sporting," the newcomer—Garus—said coldly, clad in runed armor.

Watching from the command center, Director Fury stood, a mix of curiosity and concern crossing his face. "What is Garus up to?" he muttered. Yet he refrained from recalling his agents, wanting to observe the difference in power between Parker and Garus. Nearby, three Harrier jets hovered on standby, ready to intervene.

Garus glanced at the web-slinging Parker. With a Death Grip, he pulled the young hero toward him, slamming him into the ground. Parker's head spun from the impact, leaving him dazed.

"Spider-Man!" Natasha saw her protégé being manhandled and momentarily abandoned the fight against Ghost Rider. She hurled a small device at Garus, which stuck to his armor.

"Zzzzt!" Strong electrical currents surged through Garus, temporarily halting his movements. However, Parker also bore the brunt of the shock, writhing in agony.

Natasha had no choice. Garus's true identity was known only to Fury, Coulson, and Agent Hill. Unsure of his motives and fearing for Parker's life, she acted decisively.

The electricity barely fazed Garus. As Natasha launched a kick at his arm, he caught her leg with his free hand. Yet Spider-Man's immense strength allowed him to break free and escape.

With Parker free, Garus couldn't resist brushing his armored hand along Natasha's leg. But the thick armor dulled any sensation, leaving him unimpressed.

Seeing his mentor restrained, Parker shot a web at Garus's face, blinding him and forcing him to release Natasha.

Meanwhile, Ghost Rider struggled against the agents. Their heavy firepower left him unable to counterattack, his chain merely deflecting grenades and bullets.

Garus unleashed Desecrated Ground, a corruption spreading across a hundred-meter radius. The spell destabilized the agents, causing them to stumble. Their assault on Ghost Rider ceased.

Pent-up with rage, Ghost Rider charged forward, swinging his chain and striking two agents. They disintegrated into ash.

However, Ghost Rider's host, Johnny Blaze, had reached his limit. Exhausted, he reverted to human form, collapsing unconscious.

Realizing the danger, Garus rushed to Johnny's side, erecting an ice wall to shield him from the agents' renewed attacks. Simultaneously, he cast Plague of Weakness, its debilitating effect spreading like wildfire. Even Johnny wasn't spared.

S.H.I.E.L.D. agents fell, their weapons clattering to the ground. The entire area lay in disarray.

"Hey, what's going on?" Parker asked in disbelief, watching the agents collapse. He rushed to Natasha's side, whispering, "Teacher, are you okay?"

Natasha and Clint, with their exceptional endurance, were merely weakened but still conscious. Despite their confusion, they couldn't comprehend why everyone else had suddenly fallen.

Struggling, Natasha pulled out her phone. "Coulson, we need backup…"

Parker's spider-sense flared as a dark bat-shaped projectile flew past him.

"Spider-Man, don't lose focus in a fight, or you might not survive," Garus taunted.

"I'm not afraid of you! I'm S.H.I.E.L.D.'s strongest Spider-Man!" Parker declared, psyching himself up as he swung toward Garus, determined to end the fight quickly.

Garus summoned a chilling frost aura, lowering the temperature and slowing Parker's movements.

Soul Shock!

The wailing spirits within Frostmourne manifested, unleashing an invisible screech that echoed in Parker's mind. Disoriented, he lost awareness of his surroundings.

"Thud!"

Garus delivered a powerful punch to Parker's neck, knocking him unconscious. Using the webs Parker had shot earlier, Garus bound him and hung him upside down from a streetlight.
