My Gorgeous Lady Boss

Chapter 44: An Unexpected Encounter

Luna's call forced Jaden to abandon his plan of running a few more deliveries and quickly hop onto his little electric scooter, heading straight for her apartment.

He rushed up the stairs, and as soon as he reached the door, Luna was already waiting for him, holding it open. "Hurry up and change your clothes!" she urged.

"Alright!" Jaden didn't waste any time. Luna had mentioned on the phone that their surveillance team had spotted Jenny at the coffee shop.

Normally, Jenny only visited in the afternoons, but since returning from the resort, she had arrived in the morning, which wasn't hard to interpret. Jaden had once mentioned that he usually went to the coffee shop in the mornings, so Jenny's sudden appearance could be a deliberate attempt to bump into him.

"What's the plan for today?" Jaden asked, changing his clothes in the room. Luna, standing outside, anxiously inquired.

"Keep things casual. First, ensure nothing goes wrong!" Jaden's voice came from behind the door.

"Can't you change faster? Why not take this opportunity to invite her to dinner or a hotel room?" Luna pressed.

"Not the right time. It's too sudden, things could go wrong. I'll arrange to meet her another time," Jaden replied. "And besides, can you still get Henry Lin here in time? If you bring him now, we might be done by the time he shows up. That'll just increase his dislike for you!"

"Alright, I get it. What about the job issue we talked about yesterday? You were fired, but you're still wearing the delivery outfit?" Luna asked, confused.

"Problem's been settled for now. Don't worry about it. But you need to handle my identity properly," Jaden responded coolly.

"If it's just paperwork, that's fine. But if it involves an actual site visit, we'll need to make arrangements," Luna answered candidly.

"Let's leave it for now. We'll plan ahead. I'm worried she might suddenly decide to check out the company I mentioned. Jenny's smart, and she's very materialistic," Jaden warned as he finished changing and walked out of the room.

"Car keys, cigarettes, lighter, credit card! I'm not going with you," Luna handed him the necessary items.

Jaden nodded, left the building, and drove to the familiar coffee shop not far away.

After quickly fixing his appearance, he felt confident everything was in order and entered the café.

As soon as he walked in, he spotted Jenny, but he pretended not to notice her and headed straight to the counter to order a coffee.

Then he took a seat in a quiet corner, pulling out his notebook and pretending to work.

Soon enough, he heard soft footsteps behind him. A slight smile crept onto his lips - Jenny, just as he expected, was coming to him.

"Hey!" Jenny slammed her coffee cup onto the table, visibly upset.

"Hmm? Jenny, you're here too?" Jaden feigned surprise.

"Really? I'm so insignificant that you couldn't even spot me when you walked in?" Jenny looked at him, her gaze full of resentment.

"No, no, it's just that I had something urgent to handle and didn't pay attention," Jaden explained.

"So, I'm only worth noticing if you pay attention?" Jenny pouted, clearly hurt.

"That's not it. I thought you usually come in the afternoon. Why are you here this morning?" Jaden asked.

"Because I wanted to see if I could run into you. Well, I did, but I'm not happy about it!" Jenny's face showed her displeasure.

"Okay, okay, my bad. Don't be mad," Jaden hurried to comfort her.

"Hmph! You come here to drink coffee but still work? If you're so busy, shouldn't you be at the office?" Jenny casually asked.

"It's my break. I didn't plan to work, but something came up," Jaden explained.

"I see... You're pretty free, huh? During office hours, you can just go wherever you like. Shouldn't your employees be bringing you coffee?" Jenny nodded thoughtfully.

"Employees are supposed to work, not run errands for me. As the boss, I do have the right to some freedom. But if I were too busy, I wouldn't be out here. Besides, after three days at the resort, I kind of missed the coffee here," Jaden answered smoothly, sipping his coffee.

He felt a sense of pride inside - Jenny might have been asking casually, but he was prepared for her probing questions. These were the ones he had anticipated, and he was handling them well.

"Nice, nice. Didn't you say you'd invite me out when you got back? I haven't seen any messages or calls from you," Jenny continued, pressing further.

"Well, I just got back yesterday. I've had a lot of company matters to take care of. I was planning to call you later today," Jaden quickly explained.

"Sure, sure, you're just making excuses. I bet you've already forgotten about me. Was I just a fling to you?" Jenny frowned slightly.

"Of course not. I've been thinking about you a lot. I just thought you might need some time to think things through too," Jaden shook his head.

"I don't have anything to think about. As long as you're sincere with me, I'll be sincere with you," Jenny replied without hesitation.

"But your own situation still isn't resolved, right?" Jaden fixed his gaze on her.

The question caught Jenny off guard, and she quickly averted her eyes before hurriedly explaining, "Don't misunderstand. Henry Lin hasn't come back yet, so I haven't had the chance to talk to him. I'm not keeping you as a backup."

"It's okay, I believe you. I'll give you time. Since we've already cleared the air before, I'm not going to dwell on this," Jaden waved his hand, pretending to be unconcerned.

"Really? You're not upset?" Jenny blinked, looking a little anxious.

"Of course not. Maybe others would mind, but not me. What I'm looking for is a connection, and I care about practical matters. Besides, you're the only woman who's made me feel this way in a long time. Everyone has a past, right? Who hasn't been in a few relationships?" Jaden spoke smoothly, though inside, he was secretly laughing. There was no way a man wouldn't care if his woman had been someone else's mistress.

The past relationships and being a mistressr were two different things, but Jaden just said this to soothe Jenny.

Whether she believed him or not didn't matter. His goal was to complete Luna's task, not to actually get involved with Jenny.

"Hehe, I think I'm starting to like you more and more. Maybe I didn't choose the wrong person this time," Jenny smiled at Jaden.

"Of course not. But I also wouldn't want my girlfriend still thinking about her ex," Jaden subtly hinted again.

"Don't worry. If you treat me well, I won't let you down. Give me some time, and I'll take care of things," Jenny smiled as she took a sip of her coffee, then casually asked, "By the way, where's your company? You came all the way here for coffee, or is it nearby? When are you going to show me around?"
