Reborn in Konoha; I Think I’m Cultivating Immortality

Chapter 269: Chapter 269

As soon as the announcement was made, the entire village of Konoha was abuzz with the news.

While the announcement wasn't particularly shocking, as everyone already knew that Hui would be the next Hokage, it still stirred excitement. After all, Hui was only 20 years old. A Hokage at such a young age was unprecedented in the history of the ninja world.

The villagers were thrilled, overjoyed, and full of anticipation:

"Hui-sama is going to become Hokage!"

"Yes, the world's youngest Kage—our Konoha's Third Hokage!"

"A Hokage at 20… If it were anyone else, I'd think the village was being reckless. But if it's Hui-sama, it makes perfect sense!"

"Is there anyone in the entire village more suited to be Hokage than Hui-sama?"

"One month left… I can't wait for it to happen!"

The streets and alleys of Konoha were filled with cheerful chatter about Hui's ascension. Throughout the village, not a single voice of dissent or discontent could be heard.

Even those with darker hearts dared not voice any criticism. It wasn't because they feared Hui's retaliation, but rather because they didn't want to face the anger of the common villagers, who would fiercely defend Hui's reputation.

Hui's influence in Konoha was overwhelming, and his supporters were countless.

"Captain, you once said that Hui wouldn't just be the light of the Anbu, but the light of all Konoha… That kid has truly done it," said Lightning as he stood before Konoha's Hero Memorial Stone.

Looking up at the towering monument, he seemed to see the shadow of his former Captain bear, from the Anbu.

"Commander… he really never disappoints," murmured Sakumo Hatake in the Anbu headquarters.

Sakumo, who had a close friendship with Hui, often addressed him as "Commander" in private, even though Sakumo himself now held the position of Anbu Commander.

Meanwhile, in another office, Shimura Danzo, now the head of Konoha's Interrogation Department, looked at the announcement in his hands with a complicated expression.

At one point, Danzo had believed that the race for the position of Third Hokage was between him and Hiruzen Sarutobi.

Then Hui appeared.

As Hui grew stronger, gained greater renown, and achieved more for the village, Danzo began to realize that the Hokage's seat was slipping further from his and Hiruzen's grasp.

It was something Danzo had never anticipated. He never thought that a junior like Hui would one day challenge him for the title of Hokage.

It was not the matter of strength, but age, and experience.

Years ago, when Tobirama Senju first considered stepping down, Hui had been only 15 or 16 years old, too young to even be considered.

What Danzo hadn't expected was for Tobirama to remain Hokage long enough for Hui to mature. Now, at 20, Hui's age was still young for a Kage, but it no longer seemed inappropriate.

"Even though I was prepared for this, I can't help but feel bitter. Becoming the Hokage was my lifelong dream. And you, Hiruzen… Are you feeling the same way I am now?"

Danzo muttered to himself, letting go of the last sliver of hope he'd held for the Hokage's position.

At the same time, Hiruzen Sarutobi, head of the Jonin Corps, sat in his office, lost in thought.

He had watched Hui grow up.

From the moment Hui became a ninja, it was clear he was a candidate for the Hokage role.

For years, Hiruzen had considered himself the natural successor. But now, that dream was gone.

It would be a lie to say he felt no bitterness. A dream nurtured since childhood had vanished before his eyes.

But unlike Danzo, Hiruzen quickly came to terms with it. He was a man of integrity at heart.

When it came to Hui, Hiruzen felt a mix of admiration and joy.

"What an extraordinary young man. I look forward to seeing what Konoha will become under your leadership," Hiruzen said, gazing out of his window at the two great faces carved into the Hokage Rock.

Beside the faces of the First and Second Hokage was a large blank space where the face of the Third Hokage would soon be carved.

Hiruzen had always imagined his face there. Now, in his mind's eye, that space transformed into Hui's visage.

It wasn't just Hiruzen and Danzo; many other high-ranking members and elite shinobi of Konoha had their own thoughts about the announcement.

The Nara Clan Head, for instance, wasn't surprised at all. He had been one of the first to recognize Hui's potential as the Third Hokage and had fostered a strong alliance with him early on. Now, his clan reaped the benefits of that foresight.

Meanwhile, the Uchiha Clan Head was overjoyed, nearly brought to tears by the announcement.

The Second Hokage's era had been a difficult one for the Uchiha.

Though they appeared prestigious on the surface, their position was precarious, and one misstep could have led to their annihilation.

But those days were finally over. With Tobirama stepping down and Hui ascending, the Uchiha no longer needed to live in constant fear.

Under Hui's leadership, they could look forward to stability and prosperity.

The younger generation of Konoha's shinobi also reacted in their own ways.

"Twenty years old, and already Hokage. Only Hui could pull this off," said Jiraiya, speaking to Orochimaru.

Both were 19 years old and among the youngest elite shinobi in Konoha. Alongside others like Sakumo Hatake, Might Duy, Tsunade, and Dan Kato, they represented the village's rising stars.

Even without Hui, this generation of shinobi would ensure Konoha remained the strongest village in the ninja world.

With Hui, they were unstoppable.

"It's not surprising at all. If Hui weren't the Third Hokage, that would be shocking," Orochimaru replied, scanning a scroll in his hands.

The scroll contained Hui's ideas on techniques and scientific research. Hui had already diverted Orochimaru from his obsession with eternal life, steering him away from a potentially dark path.

Now, Hui intended to cultivate Orochimaru's talents as a scientist, focusing on human biology and evolution. Hui had already envisioned Orochimaru as the head of a department dedicated to such research.

"Good thing I never wanted to be Hokage, or I'd be heartbroken," Jiraiya laughed.

Unlike others, Jiraiya had no desire for a position filled with responsibilities. For him, life was about exploring the world—and, of course, enjoying the company of beautiful women.

"Once Hui's inauguration is over, I'm heading out to travel the ninja world, take in the scenery, and finally complete my long-planned book," Jiraiya said, his eyes shining with excitement.

Though his words spoke of scenery, the sly grin on his face betrayed his true thoughts.

For Jiraiya, the real beauty of the world lay in its women.
