Chapter 299: Let Me Show You Something Exciting
When the Colossal Titan suddenly appeared before them, Eren and the others were momentarily stunned into silence.
As for the group of reincarnators, their expressions were not much better. Staring at the roughly sixty-meter-tall giant before them, they couldn't help but gulp nervously, their eyes filled with fear.
But before anyone could react, a petite figure suddenly appeared in front of the Colossal Titan's enormous face.
In the blink of an eye, hundreds of massive sword slashes erupted from the twin blades in that petite figure's hands, slicing through the Colossal Titan's enormous body in an instant.
The next second, right before everyone's eyes, the massive Colossal Titan disintegrated into thousands of evenly sized chunks of flesh, which tumbled down the wall like a rainstorm of meat.
For a moment, time seemed to freeze. Everyone held their breath, their eyes fixed on the horrifying scene before them.
As the Titan's body fell in pieces, a figure wearing the standard uniform of the Training Corps appeared in the space where the Colossal Titan's neck had been. Suspended mid-air by an invisible force, the figure hung helplessly.
"Bertolt?" Eren stared at the familiar figure in disbelief. "Why is Bertolt there?"
At this stage, Eren still didn't know that Titans were humans in disguise. His mind was racing, trying to make sense of why one of his comrades, someone he had trained alongside, would appear inside the body of a Titan.
Mina and the others were equally shocked and confused. However, the reincarnators showed no surprise—they had already learned the truth about Titans through the intelligence they had gathered beforehand.
Instead, what caught their attention was Kohina, who had suddenly appeared and effortlessly dispatched the Colossal Titan. They couldn't hide their curiosity. From everything they knew about this reincarnation world, no such overwhelmingly powerful figure was supposed to exist.
This unexpected development also left them in a difficult position. Their mission had suddenly become much harder. Though they could still venture beyond the walls to hunt Titans, the danger they would face there was far greater. After all, the omni-directional mobility gear required suitable terrain to function effectively.
Meanwhile, Zixin secretly breathed a sigh of relief. If it were up to her, she would rather avoid letting the city's walls be destroyed. That way, fewer innocent lives would be lost.
Hiding below the wall, Reiner Braun—the inheritor of the Armored Titan and a Marleyan spy like Bertolt—stared at the scene above in utter shock. The events unfolding before his eyes defied all logic.
Elsewhere, on the roof of a house within the city, Annie Leonhart—another of the Nine Titans and the inheritor of the Female Titan—could no longer maintain her usual indifferent expression. Her face betrayed a rare flicker of emotion.
Kohina paid no attention to how everyone was reacting. She grabbed Bertolt by the back of his collar and, in the blink of an eye, reappeared at the spot where Eriri and Antilene were waiting. She tossed Bertolt onto the ground before them.
"Onee-chan, I've brought him back," Kohina said sweetly, reporting to Eriri as she fixed her gaze on the trembling Bertolt. Her eyes gleamed with curiosity. "So there really are people inside Titans' bodies. How strange! Sister, can I chop him up?"
Before Eriri could answer, Eren—who had been rushing over—shouted in panic upon hearing Kohina's words. "Don't!"
The next moment, Eren and his companions reached Bertolt's side. Eren immediately positioned himself between Bertolt and Kohina, using his body to shield his friend.
"His name is Bertolt. He's our friend. Please don't hurt him," Eren said, his voice trembling with emotion as he pleaded with Eriri.
Kohina's cold gaze locked onto Eren, and it seemed she was ready to swing her blade at any moment.
Eriri reached out and patted Kohina's head, stopping her actions. With an amused smile, Eriri turned her attention to Eren and asked, "Are you sure about that? Keep in mind, he's a Titan. In fact, he's one of the culprits responsible for the destruction of Wall Maria."
Although Eriri already knew how Eren would eventually react to learning the truth about Bertolt, Reiner, and Annie from the original story, she was curious to see how the Eren of this timeline would respond to the revelation.
Hearing Eriri's words, Eren and the others froze in shock. Although they had harbored various suspicions, they had never connected the dots between humans and Titans.
"No, there must be some kind of mistake. Bertolt can't be a Titan. Please don't joke about something like this," Eren said, shaking his head vehemently as he tried to defend Bertolt.
Turning around, Eren grabbed Bertolt by the shoulders, his voice tinged with desperation. "Bertolt, this has to be a misunderstanding, right?"
Though deep down he knew the truth, Eren refused to accept it.
After all, Bertolt was someone he had lived and trained with for five whole years—a comrade and a friend.
But Bertolt didn't respond to Eren's question. He simply stared at Kohina with an expression of utter despair.
He knew his mission had utterly failed. Even the overwhelmingly powerful Colossal Titan hadn't lasted a single blow against the opponent. Bertolt couldn't imagine any scenario where he would have a chance to survive.
"Oh? You don't believe me? Then let me show you something even more interesting," Eriri said, a knowing smile spreading across her face.
With that, she snapped her fingers. At the same time, both Reiner Braun, who had been hiding below the wall, and Annie Leonhart, who had been perched on a rooftop in the city, suddenly felt their vision shift.
When they came to their senses, they realized they were now standing beside Bertolt, their bodies pinned down by an invisible force that made escape impossible.
"Reiner, Annie, you…" Eren stared at the two comrades who had suddenly appeared before him, his eyes filled with confusion.
Mina, who had a closer relationship with Annie, quickly rushed to her side. With a nervous expression, she turned to Eriri and said, "Eriri, why did you bring Annie here? She has nothing to do with this."
A bad feeling gnawed at her heart, but she didn't dare dwell on the thought. If it were true… she had no idea how she would cope.
However, in the next second, Eriri's words ruthlessly shattered the illusions Mina had been clinging to.
"Why did I bring her here? Because, just like Bertolt, those two are Titans as well," Eriri said cheerfully, her tone laced with playful malice.
Hearing this, Sasha and Connie instinctively shuddered, fear flashing across their faces as they unconsciously stepped back.
"What nonsense is this? There's no way I'm a Titan! And Annie? How could we possibly be Titans?" Reiner shouted, his voice agitated as he tried to defend himself. He then turned to Eren, Connie, and Marco, desperation in his eyes. "Eren, Connie, Marco—do you really believe what she's saying?"
As for Annie, she remained silent, sitting on the ground with a chillingly dark expression.
Despite her striking beauty, Eriri felt no fondness for Annie. As a spy sent by Marley's military, Annie's actions aligned with her mission. However, the fact that she could so callously, directly, or indirectly kill comrades she had spent five years training and living alongside made it impossible for Eriri to like her.
Eriri valued her comrades deeply. This could be seen in how she willingly poured effort into nurturing the members of her chat group. Betrayal and callousness like Annie's went against everything she stood for.
Reiner's outburst left Sasha and the others exchanging uncertain glances, unsure of whom to trust.
At that moment, several figures clad in Training Corps uniforms ascended the wall using their omni-directional mobility gear.
"Eren, are you alright?" A girl with shoulder-length hair and a pretty face ran to Eren's side.
Trailing behind her was a blond boy and several other young men and women, all wearing the same uniforms.
"Mikasa, Armin, we're fine," Eren said, his expression heavy as he shook his head.
"What happened to the Titan? It disappeared, just like five years ago?" Armin asked anxiously, his voice laced with concern.
Though Bertolt's transformation into the Colossal Titan had lasted only a few seconds before Kohina dispatched him, many people within the city had still caught sight of it. Naturally, several members of the 104th Training Corps, who had been stationed near the wall, witnessed the scene clearly.
Worried for Eren's safety, Mikasa had rushed up the wall without hesitation. Armin, suppressing his fear of Titans, had followed her, determined to be there for his two childhood friends.
Standing about ten meters away, Zixin and her team watched Eriri's group but made no move to intervene. Eren and the others, along with the newly arrived Mikasa and Armin, simply assumed they were veteran soldiers from the Garrison Regiment and paid them no mind.
Hearing Armin's question, Eren and Mina instinctively turned their gaze toward Kohina, Eriri, and Antilene.
At that moment, Mikasa—who had been focused on Eren—finally noticed Eriri and her companions for the first time.
Seeing Eriri's appearance, even Mikasa couldn't help but pause for a moment, stunned by her beauty. However, she quickly regained her composure. After all, her entire heart was devoted to Eren.
While Mikasa found Eriri's looks to be breathtaking, she wouldn't allow herself to be swayed.
That said, her first impression of Eriri was undeniably positive.
Seeing Eren hesitate to respond, Mikasa glanced at him, her expression filled with quiet inquiry.
"Eren?"
"Mikasa, Armin… They're saying that Bertolt is the Titan who appeared just now. They also said that Annie and Reiner are Titans too…" Eren hesitated for a moment but ultimately revealed the horrifying information.
Hearing this, Mikasa's face immediately darkened. Without a word, she grabbed Eren and pulled him away from Bertolt.
In the same instant, she drew the blade at her waist and, with icy determination in her eyes, slashed toward Bertolt without hesitation, startling Sasha and the others around her.
Eren and Armin quickly reached out to grab Mikasa's arms, stopping her before her strike could land, though the scene immediately descended into chaos.
"Mikasa, calm down! There has to be some kind of mistake. Bertolt, Reiner, and Annie… They've been our companions for five years!" Eren said in a low voice, trying to reason with her.
Though he spoke confidently, Eren's heart was in turmoil. The rage and hatred he felt toward the Colossal Titan and Armored Titan for destroying Wall Maria five years ago clashed with the bond he had formed with his comrades over their years of training together.
The two conflicting emotions tangled together, making it nearly impossible for Eren to accept what Eriri had just revealed.
At that moment, a sharp sound of clapping rang out nearby.
Everyone turned their heads toward the source, only to see Eriri standing there with a bright smile. Her fair hands clapped lightly, the sound crisp and deliberate.
"What did I just say earlier? Oh, right, I said I'd show you something interesting. All I did was bring the other two inheritors of the Titans' power here. The good part hasn't even started yet," Eriri said cheerfully, her tone brimming with amusement.
"Now, don't blink. Eren, I hope that after watching what comes next, you'll still be able to hold onto the same thoughts you had earlier."
With that, Eriri raised her right hand and lightly curled her index finger toward Bertolt, Reiner, and Annie. In an instant, the three of them were lifted off the ground, floating helplessly in the air above everyone's heads.
Eriri then extended her finger toward the area outside the wall and gave a casual flick, sending the three of them flying out of the wall's protective bounds.
Finally, she withdrew her invisible force, leaving them to free-fall toward the ground. At the same time, Eriri forcibly triggered the Titan powers within their bodies.
The next moment, the scene that had occurred earlier with the appearance of the Colossal Titan repeated itself. This time, however, it was threefold, with three massive bolts of golden lightning striking the ground and three deafening booms shaking the air.
When the lightning faded, the figures of three Titans were revealed.
One was a sixty-meter-tall red-skinned giant lying on the ground. Beside it was a fourteen-meter-tall Female Titan with blond hair and striking blue eyes. Completing the trio was a fifteen-meter-tall Armored Titan, its body covered in solid, impenetrable plates of armor.
All three Titans lay still, motionless as though they were fallen statues.
The people atop the wall stood frozen, their eyes glued to the sudden appearance of the three Titans before them. In that moment, the truth was undeniable.
Staring at the Armored Titan, whose image was burned into his memory, Eren's eyes instantly turned bloodshot. His jaw clenched tightly, and his face twisted into an expression of unrestrained fury.
It was this Titan—this monster—that had broken through the gates of Wall Maria, allowing countless Titans to invade their home. It was this Titan that had caused the death of his mother, who had been devoured alive.
The memories of the life he had shared with Bertolt, Reiner, and Annie over the past five years only served to deepen his disgust.
"I'LL KILL YOU!!!"
Eren let out a maddened roar, launching himself off the wall with his omni-directional mobility gear, reckless and consumed by rage.
"Eren!"
Mikasa's face immediately changed as she watched Eren leap down. Outside the wall's protection, even if the three Titans couldn't move, other Titans roamed freely.
Eren's reckless charge into danger was undoubtedly putting himself at enormous risk.
But Mikasa didn't hesitate. As soon as Eren jumped, she followed him without a second thought.
