Universe Infinite Canteen

Chapter 307: Boding Ill in Saint Louis

Ma Lu watched the portrait on the commemorative badge.

Without any surprises, Prophet Yong Yi was the "good friend" referred to by the man in the pointy hat, who he deceived and killed, inheriting the latter's scientific achievements and most of his estate.

It was also him who turned this universe plane into what it is now.

But there was one question that Ma Lu could never figure out, what exactly was he pursuing?

Power? Prestige... or money?

But he didn't have too much of these things during his lifetime.

According to the records in "Chronicles of the Holy Temple City", the disaster known as Green Hell broke out about eighty years after Yong Yi founded the city; going by human lifespans, Yong Yi should have long been gone by then.

During his life, people's opinions of him were always mixed. In fact, most people just thought he was a religious fraudster, spouting nonsense about the end of the world.

Even though those people were proven wrong later, the problem was Yong Yi had died, and he would not be around to relish it.

"Tsk tsk, truly an enigmatic fellow."

Ma Lu carelessly pocketed the commemorative badge, vaguely feeling as though he had forgotten something until he got back to his apartment; only then did he remember that he had bought a bunch of things, but had forgotten the clay he promised to Hua Mian Li.

However, Ma Lu couldn't be bothered to make another trip and decided to wait until the next time he would come.

He returned to his residence with a full bag of Energized Plants and dumped them all into the Desktop Farm.

The weight of the Energized Plants in the farm shot up to 3,365 pounds, which would yield about 250 pounds of vegetables a day, already enough to meet the daily supply of the restaurant.

As for meat, there was an additional thousand-pound increase in weight just one day after the upgrade, meaning that by tomorrow morning or at the latest by noon, the storehouse would burst once more.

Upgrading, of course, was out of the question.

After all, upgrading from Level 6 to Level 7 required 3,200 New Value points, and going from Level 7 to Level 8 needed 6,400 New Value points. Converted to RMB, it would cost at least more than five hundred thousand, and even with another level up, it would only last another day.

Therefore, the pressing issue was to find new channels to monetize the extra ingredients.

Ma Lu glanced at the phone number the hardware store owner had sent him. Over the past week, he had called it no less than five times, but no one ever answered, and the two text messages he sent were ignored.

Ma Lu dialed again, unsurprisingly, and still only music played on the other end.

After hanging up, Ma Lu was about to contact Yan Wu for information, but at that moment, a call from an unfamiliar number came in.

Upon answering, a hoarse middle-aged male voice came through.

"Tonight at 9:20, meet at the East Fourth Ring Outer Pentagon Pavilion Park, come alone, and don't call me again."

After saying this, without waiting for Ma Lu to respond, the caller hung up.

Ma Lu was somewhat baffled.

Who made that call, Lao Hei? They were involved in smuggling, so being cautious was not wrong. They were violating the laws of The Grand Alliance, not the local police, so why would they need to switch phone numbers before the transaction?

Besides, he was just looking to sell some surplus ingredients; why was it turning into something akin to meeting with a criminal?

And if it wasn't Lao Hei who called, then who was it?

Ma Lu thought about it and had no clues, but since he had nothing else to do after 9 p.m., he decided to check out Pentagon Pavilion Park.

With his current equipment, he was already more than capable of dealing with ordinary criminals and villains.

It's the extraordinary ones he feared.

To be safe, Ma Lu still decided to call for backup.

Yan Wu would definitely be the most suitable choice since the hardware store owner is an acquaintance, and with his ability to fight, he gets a boost during the full moon nights.

However, Ma Lu had already troubled Yan Wu many times before, and he couldn't keep on shearing the same sheep.

Coincidentally, after the last incident with the little demon, Ma Lu had also taken the opportunity to add Chen Zhengyi and the Wandering Sorcerer on WeChat.

He first excluded Chen Zhengyi; although this matter wasn't criminal, it definitely didn't relate to upholding justice, so he wouldn't bother the rabbit-headed person.

So in the end, he decided to contact the Wandering Sorcerer, although he was a bit worried that it would affect the other's important work of repairing seals.

To his surprise, the Female Sorceress agreed very readily, especially when Ma Lu expressed his willingness to pay two more packs of dried sweet potatoes as compensation.

The next moment, she appeared outside Ma Lu's balcony.

Wrapped in a red robe, she descended gently and hovered before the window.

Seeing this, Ma Lu hurriedly went to open the window.

"Thank you," the Wandering Sorcerer said her thanks, but afterwards, her body turned ethereal and she passed directly through the windowsill.

After she entered the room and returned to her normal state, she looked around curiously, "Your place isn't bad. And unlike the typical bachelor's pad, it's not messy, nor does it have a strange smell."

"Uh... that's because Old Wang is always tidying up. I told you, didn't I, to take action after 9 p.m.," Ma Lu said as he closed the window.

The weather had already turned quite cold, but fortunately, the municipal heating had started, so the room was still quite warm.

But the Wandering Sorcerer remained dressed quite sparingly, with just a singlet and a sorcerer's robe.

However, she was a mage, and not just any mage, but a powerful one capable of wandering through various planes and solving apocalyptic problems, so staying warm was probably just a minor case for her.

Indeed, the Female Sorceress then glanced in the direction of the bedroom and said to Ma Lu, "You might want to check on your saucy little toys."

"I don't have any saucy little toys..." Ma Lu began, but midway through, something occurred to him, and he quickly pushed the door open.

Then he saw Mr. Furball riding furiously on top of a Saint Louis model.

And just as Ma Lu opened the door, Mr. Furball seemed to have reached a climax as well, shivering, and then a sticky liquid appeared on the face of Saint Louis model.

Mr. Furball also heard the noise from behind at that moment.

With a swift turn, human and cat locked eyes.

"Wow, this is awkward," the puppet cat said, "I thought you would stay in the living room for a while longer."

"Why would you do that?" Ma Lu was shocked.

These models were all left in his care by Little Brother Yang, and Ma Lu usually kept them in a cardboard box under his bed, never imagining they would become a target.

"Dude, I'm just a little kitty, I don't have the same willpower as you humans, plus I drank two more bottles this morning, and I don't quite remember what happened after that..."

"Anyway, by the time I came to my senses, it was already done," the puppet cat said innocently, "I just made the mistake all kittens would make."

"Well, since you're done, clean this up, and don't touch these figures again, they aren't mine."

"Sure, no problem, leave it to me," Mr. Furball paused, "Uh, I know you might not like hearing this, but I think I need to be honest with you..."

"Honest about what?"

"Before this, I'd also been on your bedside table."
