Chapter 14: Sparks of Destiny
Chapter 14: Sparks of Destiny
The underground arena grew quiet again after Hiro's retreat, the cold weight of his warning lingering in Kai's mind. He retrieved Inferno Draconix from the center of the stadium, feeling the heat of victory still pulsing through its core.
Taro ran up, eyes wide with excitement. "Kai! You actually pulled it off! That last attack—what was that?"
Kai held Draconix in his hand, watching the flames flicker along its ridges. "Inferno Shift. It's not just about overwhelming power. It's about focusing everything into one precise strike. Fire is more than destruction—it's control and rebirth."
Taro's grin grew. "Man, that sounds deep. But it totally worked! You beat Hiro twice now!"
Kai's expression remained serious. "Hiro isn't done. I know it. And there's something else…" He stared into the darkness where Hiro had vanished. "He said the shadows are always patient. That means there's more to his power—and I need to be ready."
Taro sighed, rubbing the back of his head. "You're always thinking about the next battle. Can't we just celebrate this one for a minute?"
Kai smiled faintly. "Maybe. But only for a minute."
As the days passed, news of Kai's victory spread throughout the Beyblade community. His battles with Hiro and Ryuga had made him a rising star, and challengers from all over began seeking him out. Each battle tested his skills, but none matched the intensity of the dark energy he had faced before.
One afternoon, while Kai was training alone, the doors to the Beyblade Academy burst open. A tall, imposing figure stepped inside, the sunlight casting a long shadow across the floor. The figure's sharp, piercing eyes scanned the room until they landed on Kai.
"You're the one who beat Shadow Basilisk," the stranger said, his voice calm but powerful.
Kai stood, his grip tightening on Draconix. "Who's asking?"
The man walked forward, revealing a Beyblade in his hand. It was sleek and silver, with jagged edges that glimmered like ice. The core glowed with a faint, frosty light.
"My name is Shin," he said. "And this is Glacier Fenrir."
Taro, who had been watching from the sidelines, felt a shiver run down his spine. "Fenrir… that's the Beyblade with the power of freezing winds. It's unstoppable on defense!"
Shin nodded. "I've heard of your flames. I want to see if they can melt the cold fury of Fenrir."
Kai met his gaze without hesitation. "You're on."
The two Bladers faced each other in the center of the academy's main arena. A small crowd gathered, whispering excitedly.
"Bladers, ready your launchers!"
Kai and Shin prepared their Beys, the air between them growing heavy with tension.
"Three… two… one… Let it rip!"
Inferno Draconix blazed into the stadium, flames spiraling behind it. Glacier Fenrir hit the ground with a crack of ice, frost spreading outward as it began to spin.
"Draconix, Flame Spiral!"
The vortex of fire roared to life, flames swirling outward as Draconix charged.
Shin's eyes remained calm. "Fenrir, Frost Shield."
A wave of icy energy erupted from Glacier Fenrir, creating a barrier of freezing winds. The fire clashed against the frost, steam hissing as heat met cold.
Kai's eyes narrowed. He's using defense just like Ryuga did… but this time it's ice instead of wind.
"Draconix, push through! Flame Surge!"
Inferno Draconix condensed its fire and shot forward, flames spiraling into a concentrated blast. The attack slammed into Glacier Fenrir's Frost Shield, sparks and frost flying.
Shin didn't flinch. "Fenrir, Arctic Bite."
The icy Beyblade surged forward, its edges glowing with frost energy. It collided with Draconix, freezing the flames as they clashed. The force of the impact sent Draconix skidding backward, its spin slowing.
Kai clenched his jaw. "No way…"
Taro gasped. "His ice… it's putting out the fire!"
The arena filled with steam as heat and cold continued to battle. Kai wiped the sweat from his brow, his mind racing. This is different. Fenrir's ice isn't just defense—it's offense, too. I need a new strategy.
He steadied his breath. "Draconix, hold your flames. Focus them. We'll melt through this."
The battle was far from over, and the fire within Kai burned hotter than ever.
To be continued…
