Chapter 36: Chapter 36-Tear the Heavens!
Chapter 36
INUMAKI HERAKLES
Every fiber of his being told him that he was making a mistake. That he was wasting his life.
And yet his heart spoke a different tale than the rest of his body.
He hated Freya, hated her for what she had done. For what she had become? And yet he could not abandon her. For despite it all, he knew of what she had done for him as well.
Twisted as it was, he was not blind to her love for him. As dark and twisted as it was, it was love. And he did not know if he even felt a shred of it for her. Yet, it did not matter in the end.
She loved him. Loved him enough to ruin everything. Ruin herself.
She had taken a great risk when she had chosen to help Alfia give birth to a child. Using arcanum like that, blessing a babe still in a womb, was something risky, and yet she had taken that risk. The years afterward had been far better, with her acting as an older sister, often joining him in his little breaks from his mother's disastrous training.
And then it ended with that conflict. With Freya trying to take him into her familia. The Freya familia was young then, not as strong as it was today, and was demolished by Hera familia, and so began a curse and rivalry that ate away all that was good about her.
Their relationship, whatever it was, became strained, because of both Hera's and Freya's frayed relationship. He found himself at a crossroads, which soon enough ended in disaster as Hera familia lost all of its members to the campaign against the One-Eyed Black Dragon.
And the rest was history. The spark, whatever it was, then long buried in a slew of misunderstandings and past grudges.
And now he stood face to face with its accumulation.
Nidhogg was a giant beast; its shadow could cover a block of the entire city, yet it was still a monster. It was flesh and blood.
And if it was flesh and blood. It could be killed.
And he would kill it. He had to kill it.
For no other adventurer could stand a chance against it. Not yet.
He did not know for how long he had been fighting for, the understanding of hours and minutes had long faded, as his back hit the wall of Babel once again, making him scream in agony.
"AH!" and as blood came out of his mouth; he did not stop, gripping his spear even more tightly as he pushed himself off of the wall, jumping through the air as he roared at the beast in his own rage.
"GOSPEL!" he screamed, and the attack tore through the skies as it hit the gathering magic ball in the dragon's mouth.
BOOOM!
It blew up, but this was not nothing, the beast was relentless, and Inumaki pushed through the cloud of smoke as he pulled back his spear, pushing his magical power into it.
"GAE BOLG!" and threw it with all his might. The red spear raced through the air, and hit the beast in the eye, making it roar in agony as it swung its tail at him and he could brace himself for the impact, and yet he did not as he let it carry him, as he clung to it with all his might, chanting as the dragon writhed in the air because of pain.
His body was searing with pain, his magic was imbalanced, his bones broken, and his injuries, he had no account of them.
And yet he fought. He fought and pushed himself up and onto the body of the beast as he climbed and climbed until he reached the tail of its wing. Finally, he reached the end of his chant, and so as a magical circle spread underneath him, he screamed the name of the magic belonging to the Elf Queen.
"Wynn Fimbulvetr!" and that was his specialty, magic born by the combination of his skills, 'Mage' and 'Copy Wheel Eyes.'
Unlike most magicians in Orario, who were limited to three spells, Inumaki had no limit; for a while, his magic simply allowed him to copy other magics. He did not use it often, mostly relying on his mother's magics because of their affinity and mastery, yet the truth was he could use any magic he had seen use once.
Even the specialty of the Elf Queen, Riveria Los Aljos.
"RAAAAA!" the dragon screamed in pain, as its wing was frozen up, as it began to descend, and Inumaki clung to its scales before it finally hit the ground.
The impact threw him into another building, and he fell down onto his knees.
Exhausted and tired.
But it was not over. Not over yet, and as he chanted, and chanted his mother's ultimate magic, he pushed himself up once more.
The dragon had long learned that he was the only person here, that it needed to defeat him, and was already gazing at him with its massive eye. The other now held shut with his spear lodged inside it.
"AHGHHH!" it roared, the shockwave from its mere roar, blew away a few buildings as Inumaki continued to step forward, even as a magical circle appeared near the beast's mouth.
"....Loved by the miniature garden, my destiny is shattered. I hate you. The compensation is here. Destroy everything with a proof of my sin. Cry, holy bell tower.." he screamed as a massive grey ball of magic gathered infront of him.
Nidhogg retaliated, needing no chant. A massive ball of flames emerged in its mouth, and the beast looked straight into his eyes as Inuamki roared with all his might.
"Genos Angelus!"
"ROARRR!"
And their attacks met each other, as the ground itself was torn apart, Inumkaki could feel the ground under his feet tear up, as the magic sent ripples all over Orario.
Right now, he was fighting not as a Level 7, but fighting while adding onto his own stats all of his mother's falna, hence pushing his body to its limits. And with her magic came her illness as well, taking away his life with every passing second.
BOOM!
And there was an explosion as the magic as he was thrown back, as his vision darkened.
As he opened his eyes once again, the world around him was all Blurred up, and yet through the smoke, he saw it emerge once more.
"ROARR!" roaring forth as it stepped forward, looking at him with its eye, while half of its face was blown apart.
He could see the damage it had taken—the shoulders, the wings—they were all burnt up—as he coughed up and tried to push himself back up.
Yet his body refused. His muscles did not budge an inch, and even as he pushed himself, he could not lift a finger.
Perhaps realizing his helplessness, the beast roared as if in triumph as Inuamki saw its wounds begin to heal. He himself had used it on himself many times. And now even magic refused to heal his body, which refused to budge as he lay there helplessly.
"You should not have come," a voice broke the trance, as he moved his eyes to the side and saw a sole figure running down towards him.
"Don't..." he whispered, as he recognized those grey locks, even with his blurry vision, and yet he could not even speak as she came beside him once more.
"Why did you come back!" she screamed as she glanced down at his body. Inumaki himself lacked the courage to do that as he stared into her eyes.
"WHY! WHY! WHY! WHY! WHY!" she screamed. Looking into his eyes, she saw the dragon waiting with baited breath as its mouth healed. It seemed that it could not move either because of their fight.
"Get away!" he uttered out through the pain as Freya sat down beside him, taking his head in her arms.
"Run!" he asked again, and yet she shook her head.
"NO! I won't leave you!" she spoke as she tried to pull him up, but she maybe be able to use her arcanum as a magical weapon. But physically she was nothing special, having no more strength than an ordinary human.
"GO!" he thundered as he saw the Nodhogg's mouth heal.
"NO!" she screamed as the dragon roared, and a magical circle appeared in its mouth as a fireball emerged.
"Go, run, Freya!" he screamed again through the agony as he coughed up blood as her arms failed to lift him up.
"NO! I cannot leave you. Not like this," she gasped as she saw the dragon's attack.
"You will die!" she begged, and he smirked.
"I won't. Just get away! Hide!" he added as he tried to push himself up. His muscles pained and raged against him, and yet he fought and felt them tear as he pushed himself up, but even then, he could barely sit up.
"No. I will not," she spoke as the dragon loosened its attack on them, as Inumaki could only watch, and in his desperation, he reached for the little vestiges of magic that remained in his blood as he looked towards Freya and whispered.
"Astaraxis!" and saw as a silver hue came over her, as the dragon's attack rusked towards her.
He saw her eyes widen as her arcanum melted away, his magic refusing to let her use her Arcanum, as the dragon's attack headed straight for them.
"Goodb..."
But before he could say anything more, he saw a figure descend infront of him, a hulking body that jumped infront of him with a scream.
"VINI HILDIS!"
BOOOM!
And the explosion was massive as the hulking giant was blown back, and yet that magic. He recognized it in an instant as he saw Ottar's body hit the crater wall beside him.
"AGHHH!" the giant boaz grunted in pain as he held up his swords.
"Ottar," both he and Freya gasped together as they saw the Freya familia captain standing there.
"What are you doing here? I asked you to look after everyone," Freya raged.
The giant Boaz looked at his Goddess as he pushed himself up before he answered in his deep voice.
"I am afraid I cannot do that. Not when everyone is here as well," and then as the dragon Nidhogg roared, its recovery nearly complete, it found itself surrounded by Orario's mightiest adventurers.
Hedin, Allen, Finn. Riveria, Gareth, and so forth.
They all stood around it as the dragon took the skies.
"We will buy you time," Ottar said as he looked into his eyes.
"It is upto you to bring it down, Silent!" And then he jumped away as they all began to attack the massive beast.
Inumaki, when fighting the beast, was using powers that went beyond his rank of Level 7, tapping fully into his mother's own Level 7 stats, so in a way, he was fighting it as an adventurer who was at, if not beyond rank 10 in terms of stats.
He saw them fight it, the mighty beast, and yet they were helpless. The biggest threat when it came to Nidhogg was its ability to recover itself and heal its wounds, so quickly.
To defeat it, it needed to be destroyed in a single attack.
"You are here," he heard another voice. Looking up, he saw the captain of the Hephaestus familia standing there.
"Tsubaki," he asked as the one-eyed girl jumped down, carrying on her back a covered weapon.
"I have a delivery for you from our Goddess," and with that, she reached out and took out the package she was carrying.
"She said that you would know what to do with it," and as she laid it open infront of him, he found himself staring at a sword unlike any other. It had no edge, its hilt was made of gold, and the blade a circular dark obsidian lined with red accents.
"Ra..." he gasped as he realized just what he was looking at. And perhaps it was a weapon that could put down the beast. Put down Nidhogg.
"We know that to kill that thing, we will need to one-shot it," Tsubaki added, and he was surprised that they were able to figure this out. And given its size and history, we do not know how we are going to be able to gather so much power in a single strike," Tsubaki added with a shrug.
"But Hephaesteus-sama said that if anyone could do this, it was you. And that you would need this for it," she said as she looked at the blade and shrugged.
"So, our fates are in your hands. Just so you know," and with that, she jumped forth as well, joining the rest as they harassed the beast called Nidhogg.
"The World Splitter," Freya gasped beside him, surprising him as he looked towards her.
"Hephaestus is a businessman at first. I paid her quite a sum to have her narrate the tales you would tell her," she said, and he should have expected nothing else as Freya took his hand and placed it on the blade as she looked into his eyes.
"Let me atone for my sins, Inumaki-kun," she said, and her body began to glow. The very air around them stilled as he saw her break the taboo of the Gods.
The world itself tore apart as she broke all the laws sacred to Gods and gathered all the Arcanum she could. Her Godly presence had never been so magnified and prominent, as a reddish hue covered her whole being and he felt the sword ripple with energy, before she slowly reached for his hand.
BOOOM!
And as soon as her skin touched his own, he felt it. The power of the Gods and the spark that lay inside him turned into a full-blown fire as his body was flooded with Freya's Arcanum.
Her blessing, the one which had kept his mother's curse at bay, the one which had made it possible for him to be alive, roared forth, expanding and growing stronger as Freya's body began to fade until she reached for her face.
"Goodbye, my Siedr...."
"NO!"
BOOOOM!
But he could do nothing even as his body was filled with arcanum, with the power of the Gods as a massive storm of light emerged infront of his gaze as Freya was punished for breaking the taboo and returned to the heavens.
And it was unlike anything he had ever seen as the light tore through the dark skies.
"ROARRR!" and the dragon 'Nidhogg' must have felt the power, must have realised the threat to his life as it turned towards him, as Inumaki gripped the blade with his hand and stood up, as he looked the beast in the eye.
His body was brimming with Arcanum, and in that moment, he no longer felt human. No. He felt as if he was a god, and as Nidhogg roared, a magical circle appeared at its mouth, one larger than any he had seen yet as Inumaki raised the special blade brimming with arcanum into the air.
And the black part of the blade spun as thin red wire-like threads spread out of it and climbed up into the skies as he used all his magic.
"I will tell you of the beginning. Heaven and Earth split, nothingness congratulated creation..." The chant came to him as the threads of fate and destruction spread all over the skies, and the mighty dragon Nidhogg prepared its own attack, gathering all its magical power for this final attack, realising the danger it was in.
"...and my sword cleaved the world! This is the eve of creation's celebration..."
All the powers gathered at the tip of his blade, and it was as if he was holding the Sun in his hands as his body burned.
"Die and be silent!"
"ROARRRR!"
"ENUMA ELISHHHHH!"
BOOOOM!
