Chapter 37: Chapter 37-THE END!
Chapter 37
EPILOGUE
Many years after the reappearance of the calamity known as 'Nidhogg,' Orario was at peace once more. The vestiges of Evilus had long been rooted out, and people barely remembered the details of the dark tragedy that had nearly swallowed their whole world.
One person kept the truth of it alive, keeping the name of the hero who had saved not only the city but the whole world.
On the outskirts of the city, there is a small patch of land with a giant tree in the center of a beautiful field of grass. A barrier, invisible to the common eye was erected around it, though not for humans.
No the barrier did little to stop humans, or even adventurers for that matter. No, the barrier was not designed for either. It was designed for deities, or rather selectively, a singular goddess.
The very goddess who sat there under the shade of that massive tree, surrounded on all sides by more than a dozen small children who sat there in awe of the beautiful face and voice of the Goddess who sat there and read to them the tale of that damned day.
And the said goddess looked up at the skies as she reached the end of her tale.
"And as the hero lay there, nearing the end of his life elite adventurers from each and every familia of the city rushed to his aide," and the eyes of teh children lit up at the mention of advetnureres.
"Even Kenki?" one of them asked, and she nodded.
"Yes, even Kenki, and the Warlord, and even Finn and The Fire Fairy," she answered as the children made amazed faces.
"All of them. Then they all would have easily defeated the evil dragon," one of the kids whispered, and she shook her head, much to their surprise.
"One would think so. But no," she answered.
"Even their combined might could do nothing but barely hold back the evil dragon named 'Nidhogg.' One could say that all the elite adventurers of teh city combined could barely do what the hero had managed to do all by himself for nearly half a day," and their eyes widened in amazement, and there were a few who seemed skeptical of her claim.
Most of them here had grown up hearing tales of the might of 'Kenki' and 'the Warlord' and the rest, and yet here she was belittling their might.
She paid them no mind as she continued.
"And in that hour of need, the foolhardy goddess finally saw the mistake she had made. Saw what she had done, and chose to sacrifice herself to help the hero use his final weapon," and she raised her hand as she recalled looking down at that blade from the heavens.
"A weapon unlike any other. One that could only be wielded by the hero, who would rise up once more and with all his might use a spell that would split open the heavens themselves," and she had felt it as well.
Such was the might of that attack that the barrier separating heaven and Earth had been broken by his attack.
"The attack struck the evil dragon, and overpowered its ability to heal itself, and the mighty beast died right then and there," she finished.
"Then where is the hero now? What became of him?" a small girl asked and she smiled as she looked into the girl's eyes.
"The hero had become so strong that he had torn through the heavens themselves. So, the dieties decided that the hero was no longer human, and so for the first time in a millenia, a human adventuer ascended to the heavens not because of death but by gaining divinity," and all the children watched in awe, and she wondered if they even understood the impossibility and incereduility of just what it meant.
"So, he became a God?" one of them asked again and she nodded.
"Yes, the hero became a God, gaining for himself the domains of sacrifice, mercy and love," she finished as she closed the empty book and smiled at the children.
"And that my dear children is the true history of the day of 'Ascension'," she finished as she smiled at them.
"Will he ever come down again, like the rest of the gods?" someone questioned.
"What became of the Goddess who was in love with the hero?" came another question.
And she smiled as she pointed towards the matron, waving at the children from the edge of the field.
"I think your matron is here," she said and the children all looked back, and after a few thankyous, and flowers rushed towards the matron as she waved at them from under the tree.
They were all orphans, having come to this secluded field to play. And as the children left, the grey haired lady was left alone once more, and she stared at the skies above as she lay there against the tree.
"You and the rest need not do this, Heidin-chan," she spoke warmly, and then suddenly a mage appeared out of thin air, standing against the tree just behind her.
Though, in truth, he had not just emerged. He had always been there, invisible to everyone except the Goddess who sat there.
"I am no longer your patron goddess," she spoke, a bit forlornly, for the woman sitting under the tree was none other than the fool-hardy Goddess who had fallen in love with the hero, the very Goddess who had released the evil of Nidhogg on the world.
She had sacrificed herself to save Inumaki-kun, to save hero, and to pay for her crimes and thought her time on Earth ended, yet the hero's attack had torn up the heavens thesemleves.
And in that moment, he had pulled her back down to the Earth as he himself rose to teh Heavens above.
She had to answer for her crimes, and yet he spoke for her, seeking clemency for her when none would—not even herself.
And Freya was imprisoned in this garden for a decade. Her familia, her wealth, all of it was taken from her, and she was confined to this small place for 16 years, equivalent to the hero's own age.
For this favor, Inumaki-kun was made to ascend to the heavens so that he could never threaten the Tenkai with his powers, and he had to spend 16 years up in the heavens separated from her as penance.
"The lack of falna, means little to us. You are still our Goddess Freya-sama," her ever-loyal child, Heidin, answered as she smiled.
"You must all have your own lives. You must go and live them and forget about poor old me," she advised them, and he shook his head.
"We made a promise to him that we will see that no harm comes to you, nad we intend to keep it," he said, and she smiled.
"I do not deserve this. Any of this," she lamented as she cried over her own past mistakes.
"You and him, all of you have been too kind to me for my crimes," she whispered as a tear fell down her face.
"We are only returning the kindness that you once showed us, Freya-sama," and with that she looked up at the heavens.
"13 more years. I will be waiting for you, Inumaki-kun...."

And so for thirteen years, the Goddess of beauty sat there under that very tree alone, often joined by children from the nearby orphanage who would come to hear her tales. And, the years passed, and the world changed, until it was the sixteenth anniversary of the 'Ascension Day' the details of which had long been lost to history by all, except the few children who had visited her garden.
And so, on that day, as she sat there, she felt it. The barriers keeping her imprisoned in the place shifted, and yet she did not move as she turned to look up at the heavens above before suddenly a light descended from them.
The silver-haired goddess sprang to her feet as the light coalesced into a very familiar form infront of her eyes, as she gasped, and tears dripped down her face.
And as the lightshow ended, infront of Freya stood a young boy with a very familiar face, and dark grey hair.
"Inumaki-kun..." she gasped as she rushed towards the boy in question.
"Freya...."
