Chapter 59: Infernal Soul Strike
The oppressive darkness thickened, suffocating and heavy, as the mage drew more power from the shadows that coiled around him. His form flickered like a dying flame, but the malice in his crimson eyes burned brighter than ever.
Yukari gritted her teeth, sweat dripping down her face as her flames flickered in the inky blackness. Every attack they landed seemed to chip away at the man's defenses, but he retaliated with ferocity, his shadowy beasts multiplying with every strike.
"Mirajane," Yukari called, dodging another clawed swipe from a shadow beast. "He's losing strength, but he's not going down easy!"
Mirajane, still in her Satan Soul form, delivered a devastating punch to one of the shadow creatures, sending it crumbling into wisps of darkness. She landed beside Yukari, her wings flaring as her demonic form exuded raw power.
"I can feel it," Mirajane said, her voice a low growl. "He's running out of steam, but if we don't finish this soon, he might take the whole room with him."
Yukari glanced at the trembling mage, his hands barely steady as he summoned more shadowy tendrils. "Fine. Let's hit him with everything we've got."
The man let out a hollow laugh, his voice echoing ominously. "You think you've won? Fools! My shadows are endless. I'll bury you both before this night is over!"
Yukari smirked, raising a hand as golden flames swirled around her. "Big talk for someone who's sweating like a pig. Let's see if you can handle this!"
With a sharp motion, she launched a barrage of fireballs at the shadow creatures, each one exploding on impact and scattering the darkness. The flames illuminated the room in bursts of light, revealing the cracks in the mage's composure.
Mirajane took advantage of the opening, her claws glowing with demonic energy as she launched herself at the mage. "Demon Blast!" she roared, releasing a wave of dark magic that tore through the air, aimed directly at him.
The man barely managed to raise a shield of shadows, but the force of the attack sent him stumbling backward. His barrier cracked, and his breathing grew ragged.
"You're running out of tricks," Yukari said, stepping forward with her flames blazing brighter. "Face it you've already lost."
The mage's lips curled into a snarl. "I haven't lost anything!" he bellowed, slamming his hands into the ground. The shadows around him surged one final time, forming a massive, writhing beast that towered over them. Its eyes glowed red, and its roar shook the very foundations of the castle.
Yukari and Mirajane exchanged a quick glance, and in that moment, an unspoken understanding passed between them.
"Ready for a finale?" Yukari asked, her voice steady despite the tension in the air.
"Always," Mirajane replied, a fierce grin spreading across her face.
As the beast lunged toward them, Yukari leaped into the air, flames swirling around her like a fiery tornado. "Blazing Spiral!" she shouted, releasing a torrent of golden fire that slammed into the creature's side, forcing it to stagger.
Mirajane followed up immediately, her wings propelling her upward as she gathered energy for her next attack. "Soul Extinction!" she yelled, unleashing a devastating blast of demonic energy that struck the beast head-on, cracking its form further.
The mage roared in frustration, his control over the shadows faltering. "No! This isn't possible! You're just children!"
Yukari landed beside Mirajane, her flames still burning brightly. "Children or not, we're Fairy Tail," she said, her voice laced with determination. "And we protect what matters."
"Let's end this," Mirajane said, her claws crackling with energy.
Yukari nodded. "Together."
The two mages stood side by side, their magic surging in perfect harmony. Yukari's flames coiled around Mirajane's demonic aura, the golden and dark energies intertwining in a mesmerizing dance.
"Infernal Soul Strike!" they shouted in unison, combining their powers into a single, devastating attack.
The blast tore through the air, a brilliant explosion of light and shadow that collided with the shadow beast and the mage at its core. The impact was deafening, shaking the room and sending shockwaves through the castle.
When the dust finally settled, the shadows had vanished, and the mage lay on the ground, unconscious and defeated. The room was eerily silent, save for the crackle of Yukari's lingering flames.
Yukari let out a shaky breath, extinguishing her fire as she turned to Mirajane. "We did it," she said, a small smile breaking through her exhaustion.
Mirajane reverted to her normal form, her wings and demonic features fading. She brushed a strand of white hair from her face and smirked. "Of course we did. Did you doubt me?"
Yukari rolled her eyes but couldn't hide her grin. "Not for a second."
The ballroom doors burst open, and guards flooded in, their weapons drawn. Princess Amélie stepped forward, her face pale but resolute. "Stand down," she commanded. "These two just saved my life."
The guards hesitated, but at her insistence, they lowered their weapons. Amélie approached Yukari and Mirajane, her expression softening. "Thank you," she said, her voice trembling. "I don't know how to repay you."
Yukari shrugged, rubbing the back of her neck. "It's what we do. Just... maybe next time, hire someone else to throw a ball?"
Amélie let out a shaky laugh, tears glistening in her eyes. "I'll keep that in mind."
As the adrenaline began to fade, Yukari glanced at Mirajane, who was unusually quiet. "Hey," Yukari said, nudging her lightly. "You okay?"
Mirajane smirked, though her eyes held a flicker of something softer. "I'm fine. Just... try not to hog all the glory next time."
Yukari laughed, the sound light and genuine. "Deal."
