Marvel’s Spider-Man: Across the Multiverse

Chapter 12: Chapter 12: Peter’s Training Session (Part 2)

Lunch as usual, was prepared by Aunt May.

Mindful of Spider-Ham being, well, a pig, the meal featured no pork. Instead, everything was made with beef.

Aunt May's cooking was excellent, and Spider-Ham devoured three oversized hotdogs stuffed with massive beef sausages, declaring them a culinary triumph.

During the meal, Peni shared an update on her progress.

The good news: she'd found a solution in the files left behind by the late Spider-Man.

It appeared the late Spider-Man had devised a plan specifically targeting Kingpin's particle collider.

From what she could gather, he had developed a device to completely destroy the collider.

However, for reasons unknown, the files contained no details about the particle collider itself—only a blueprint for the device. The rest of the data seemed to have been deliberately erased.

The group speculated that after completing his research and building the device, the late Spider-Man had intentionally destroyed the records to prevent anyone else from recreating the collider.

It was a good precaution.

Unfortunately, the late Spider-Man hadn't foreseen his untimely demise in this very mission.

With most of the data gone and only the blueprint remaining, even someone as skilled as Peni was struggling to figure out how to reconstruct the device in a short amount of time.

In the end, Peni sighed in resignation. "I'll give it another shot this afternoon. If I still can't make progress, we'll have to find a way to infiltrate Kingpin's base tonight and retrieve the detailed collider data ourselves."

"Sounds good. That can also serve as Peter's first real mission," Spider-Noir nodded, showing no objection to Peni's plan.

Peter, for his part, felt a surge of excitement.

The intense training that morning had greatly boosted his strength and confidence.

He was itching to put his newfound skills to the test.

Still, he knew they had to complete the late Spider-Man's unfinished work and find a way back to their respective worlds. Reckless action could jeopardize their mission.

Based on what they'd seen the night before, it was clear Kingpin was likely keeping Aunt May under surveillance.

Remaining in the shadows while Kingpin operated in the open was a strategic advantage that increased their odds of success.

If they exposed themselves too soon and gave Kingpin time to prepare, it would only complicate matters.

For now, Peter forced himself to rein in his eagerness.

But a "team mission" approved by everyone? That was a different story!

The thought alone had Peter itching to dive into action.

After lunch, Peter eagerly dragged Spider-Noir and Spider-Ham back to the underground training arena in the spider den.

The late Spider-Man had clearly used this space to test new abilities and hone his skills.

With a few adjustments to the controls on the wall, the training ground transformed.

Obstacles hung chaotically across the area, and laser devices emerged unexpectedly from the walls.

The setup was perfect for improving flexibility and reaction speed.

Although Peter's Spider-Sense provided excellent protection against ranged attacks, there was an old adage: "The brain reacts, but the body doesn't keep up."

The same principle applied to Spider-Sense.

If the body couldn't react fast enough to match the heightened awareness, injuries were still possible.

There were also moments when Spider-Sense didn't activate.

For instance, Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man once got shot because he let his guard down around a police officer.

Even though his Spider-Sense didn't initially trigger due to his trust in the officer, it should have alerted him to the danger as the bullet neared.

If his reaction time had been faster, he could have dodged the bullet.

This highlighted the importance of training physical reflexes.

The presence of such equipment in the base was also a testament to how hard the late Spider-Man had worked during his lifetime.

[Swinging Dropkick]!

[Web Smash]!

[Aerial Combo]!

[Aerial Toss]!

[Wall-Corner Turn]!

[Ceiling Hang]!

Spider-Noir and Spider-Ham took turns teaching Peter these moves. After spending about an hour practicing, Peter also started replicating many techniques from the video games he remembered.

"Wow, kid, you've got some impressive combat instincts!" Spider-Ham praised with a grin.

Spider-Noir, standing with his arms crossed, offered constructive criticism. "Kid, that last move was too flashy. You need to be more decisive. Don't let your arms swing aimlessly—make sure they follow the trajectory of the web. Ever studied geometry? Keep your arm motion aligned with the web to create a straight line. That way, you'll double your efficiency."

He continued, pointing out more flaws. "And what's up with that leg? Practicing Latin dance, are we? That move is too showy and impractical. You want to end up flat on your face during a fight?"

Spider-Noir's relentless critique made him sound like a stern drill instructor. But under his strict guidance, Peter's progress was undeniable.

By stripping away the flashy effects from the games, Peter quickly learned how to integrate web attacks into real combat. It wasn't just about offense—he mastered dodging, trapping enemies, and stealth techniques as well.

Peter absorbed these lessons like a sponge. Spider-Noir and Spider-Ham, pouring their expertise into him, were like two fountains of knowledge, and Peter took it all in without hesitation.

As a result, Peter's combat abilities skyrocketed.

To receive such dedicated training from two seasoned Spider-Men right after gaining his powers was an extraordinary stroke of luck for Peter.

Thinking back to Tobey's Spider-Man and Andrew's Spider-Man, they had to figure things out on their own. It was like crossing a river by feeling for stones—trial and error, facing villains one by one, often in life-threatening situations, before they gradually grew into their roles.

Peter, on the other hand, bypassed that challenging initial stage entirely.

This came with both advantages and disadvantages.

The benefit was clear: his starting point was incredibly high. With enhanced memory and physical abilities granted by his spider powers, Peter absorbed nearly all of the knowledge and experience Spider-Noir and Spider-Ham shared. His combat prowess advanced rapidly.

However, there was a downside.

Right now, Peter was like a flower raised in a greenhouse.

He appeared vibrant and healthy, but no one could say for sure how he would fare when exposed to the harsh storms outside the greenhouse.

This mental resilience was something no one could teach him. Peter would need to develop it himself through real battles.

Regardless, Peter was deeply grateful for the guidance of Spider-Noir and Spider-Ham.

While Peter was diligently training in the spider den, three unexpected visitors arrived at Aunt May's house above ground.

The trio was an unusual sight:

A young Black boy in a cheap Spider-Man T-shirt.

A middle-aged man with a large gut, wearing the top half of a Spider-Man suit paired with sweatpants.

A slender girl in a sleek black-and-white Spider suit.
